Hazel (Sam) was born in St Helena, CA; daughter of Eleanor and George King. She is survived by daughter Kimberly Santos and husband Robert Jeffery, son Mark Santos and wife Kathy, granddaughter Yvonne Yancey, brother Eugene King, nephews and niece Bobby Venegas, Alan King and Kathy Vorne and her many friends from over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Andrew Santos, her parents, brother Wesley King, sister Violet (Honey) Venegas, and best friend Dana (Sunshine) Rutherford.
During her childhood, Hazel lived in northern California, where she and her family picked fruit and grapes during harvest. After their marriage, while husband Walter was stationed in the South Pacific with the Navy, Hazel lived and worked supporting the war effort in San Diego. Walter and Hazel moved to Santa Clara, CA after the war where Kim and Mark were born. Later, the family moved to the central coast where Hazel was a long time local resident of Santa Cruz and Capitola. During the late 1960's she began working for Jimmy Machado at Capitola Cab as a taxi driver, enjoying the opportunity to meet new people. Hazel loved her many pen pals, classic British comedies, NASCAR, touring the back roads and dirt trails of Santa Cruz County on Mark's motorcycles, as well as creative outlets like crochet, drying flowers and card making.
A private service was held in Lafayette, Colorado.
