Isabelle Garber Obituary

Services will be held at a later date for Isabelle "Isy" Addison Cant Garber who passed away on August 21st at her home in Santa Cruz. She was 87 years old.

Isabelle was born April 11, 1924 in Eureka CA. Her parents James and Drusilla Frame Cant had emigrated from Scotland. The family later moved to the San Francisco bay area. After graduating from San Mateo High School and Jr. College, Isabelle attended UC Berkley and UC Davis. She received her BA degree and teaching credentials from Chico State College and her Masters Degree from Sacramento State University. While attending Chico State Isabelle married Jack Garber on July 29, 1949. She taught for several years in Paradise CA as well as schools in Sacramento County. After retirement she and Jack moved to Santa Cruz where they have lived for 18 years.

Isabelle's interests included watercolor painting and ballroom dancing. She fondly remembered USO dances and the music of World War II era. Isabelle was a loving wife and beloved mother and had nary an ill word to say of anyone. All of her immediate and extended family greatly loved and admired her. Isabelle will be long remembered and missed by all.

Isabelle is survived by her husband of 62 years John "Jack" Garber; three sons Ian, Kirk and Andrew; and daughter Kim Malone. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great-grand children and four great-great grand children. She was preceded in death this year by her only sister, Flora Schiffner of Paradise, CA. Arrangements entrusted to Santa Cruz Memorial.
