Janet (Jan) Ann Martin, a truly beautiful spirit, passed in her sleep from this earth in the early hours of Sunday June 28, 2009 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. She leaves a void that never can be filled.
Jan was a kind and loving daughter, sister, wife and friend who brought much joy to all those around her with her zest for life and love of laughter. Jan would like to be remembered to her many good friends who she loved so dearly.
Jan was born in 1953 in Ohio, the daughter of William E. and Eleanor (Fragale) McLaughlin. Jan is survived by her husband, John, mother, Eleanor, her brothers David, Gary and Bob, her sister Judy Sennitt, her nieces Rachelle, Megan and Kelly, her nephew Bill, her in-laws, mother, Barbara, brother Bill, and sister, Nancy, her aunt Mary Ann Wallace, and her uncle Frank Fragale. She was preceded in death by her sister Joanie and her father William (Bill).
Jan graduated from Urbana High School in 1971 and later attended community college in Colorado. In 1981 she moved to California where she met her husband, John. They were married in 1991 and lived in Boulder Creek for more then twenty years with their much loved German Shepherd dogs, the most recent being Lillie. She worked at "Zelda's" restaurant in Capitola and the ""Portola House"" restaurant in Santa Cruz, California for many years where she made many good and loyal friends.
Jan was a very talented stained glass artist who owned and produced works through "Crystal Rose Glassworks" of Boulder Creek, California. She entered her works in competitions and won many of them. Jan was a keen gardener and an exceptional cook. She loved sharing her homemade desserts with friends and neighbours. Her Christmas cookies will be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have experience them.
A remembrance will be held at "The Point Chop House"" restaurant, 3326 Portola Dr. in Santa Cruz on July 18th from 1-4. Please come and share your fondest memories of our beloved Jan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jan's name and sent to
Hospice of Santa Cruz. , 940 Disc Drive, Scots Valley, California, 95066. Or "Tara House" 5800 Prescott Road, Soquel, CA. 95073. Both were truly a blessing for the family in the last and trying months of Jan's precious life. Fly home sweet angel.
