Joel and I had a few classes together in High School, business law and math. My last name starts with A so I was always in the front on the left and he was the first in the next row over. We didn´t talk much, I was pretty reclusive, but I was just remembering the other day that he was very concerned the day I crashed my scooter and went with me to go look at the mangled wreck on break. We had that in common, owning and riding a scooter, he had a Vespa. The thing that stood out after all these years was his concern for others. I just learned of his passing today through Facebook and I am so sorry for this loss to his family. Even though he is no longer here I know his spirit will always be with his family.

It is heartening to read these tributes. I never personally met Joel, but know/knew his parents and brother; all in the teaching profession. I became a teacher, in part, because Joel's dad made learning such a wonderful experience, to HIS students. I have NO Doubt that many of Joel's former students will follow in HIS footsteps one day, also...
My condolences to Janyth and Curtis, and Joel's children and wife. What a tragic loss of someone so loved, and who should have had many more years of helping make a positive difference in this world.

I still remember when I was going for Vice President at E.A. Hall, and Mr Dison's signature was the last one I needed from a teacher for my petition. I had to be on time, and show how a modeled student behaved all week in his class. It just seemed like last week it had happened. May you rest in peace Joel.
