John C. McKellar passed away on August 25, 2021, after a long illness. Born in Los Angeles in 1932, he graduated from UCLA and received his Masters Degree from SJSU. John was a chemist, a SJSU professor, a world traveler, environmentalist, a mountain trekker on 4 continents, an avid reader and conversationalist, and a practicing Buddhist.
He helped found the Sierra Club Singleaires in 1972 and was an active member with backpack and mule treks throughout the Sierras. John will be remembered by those who accompanied him on his many trips as a fun, adventurous, and knowledgeable leader.
Survived by son Ken McKellar of San Francisco, daughter Joraine McKellar of Santa Cruz, and grandchildren Hunter McKellar and Ashley McKellar of Santa Cruz.
