John Schlatter Obituary

John George Schlatter
Aug. 30,1948-Aug. 30,2012
Resident of Boulder Creek
John George Schlatter passed away peacefully in his Boulder Creek home after a long battle and heroic struggle with prostate cancer. He died on his birthday at the age of 64. John was a good and decent man who loved God and strived to live his life with honor and integrity.
John was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 30, 1948. For many of his happy boyhood years he lived in the little hamlet of Lake Katrine in upstate New York. He later lived for a short time in New Mexico and settled in Southern California before moving to Boulder Creek with his wife Monique in 1996.
John graduated from Kingston High School in 1966. By the age of 15 he was already an apprentice machinist. He served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge. John worked in computer technology as a marketing manager, sales manager, and business owner. In 1991 he married Monique. They were soul mates, the love of each other's lives, and married for 21 years. John (Johnny to his family) had a highly intelligent, curious and questioning mind. He loved to read and to learn. He was articulate and forthright in his principles. John had a kind and generous nature, a deep soul, an appreciation of beauty, and was a loving and devoted husband. He loved his animals and his home. John had many interests: cars, Formula 1 racing, motorcycles, guns, movies, books, current events, animals, travel, nature, science and computer technology. More than anything, Johnny adored his wife Monique and loved spending time together with her.
John is survived by his wife, Monique Schlatter, his younger sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Jack Wall, his older sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Vincent Deale, his mother-in-law, Pauline Zuur and his cousin and her husband, Antoinette and Leo Ursini. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sally, his beloved grandfather, John and his father, John.
A private Memorial will be held for John at home with family and friends. Any donations are preferred to, Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr. Scotts Valley, CA 95066. Please visit www.pacificgardenschapel.com to light a candle for John and share any condolences with his family.

Dear Johnny,

It´s been 13 years now. I´m 72, 8 years older than you were when you passed from this earth. Our older sister Louise passed this summer at 83 -June 16th. I was with her until the end- it was tough John. I hope and pray she´s with you and Mom. Here I remain, the youngest. Still standing...head unbowed. Grateful for my life; I try each day to live in a meaningful, good and loving way...in honor of you and Mom. Your life ended much too soon. And Mom´s was much too hard. I love you all so much.
I have times of joy, sadness yet great contentment- even though I miss my family. Life is such a precious gift. Every day is a blessing, despite these strange times- (in our country).
I wonder what you would say.
One thing´s for sure, our generation had the best of times. I feel blessed and grateful for those memories- we were going to change the world! And in ways we did- yes we sure did.

I miss you my brother.
See you again someday "where the bad can´t go."
Love Forever, your little sister Sally

Dear Johnny,
My beloved brother. It’s been eight years since your beautiful soul slipped away from the bondage of your suffering body. Hardly a day goes by without a thought of you.

I try my best to live my life with gratitude, with an appreciation for beauty and the simple things you are not here to share. I hope we will meet again in that place where bad can’t go. Until then, I’ll stay strong and kind and try my best to do the next right thing.
Miss you big brother. See you on the other side.
Love Eternal,
Sally

Johnny my dear & precious brother, it's been over two years. The meaning of time has changed since you left us. I still can't believe you're gone. Every time I see something magnificent and beautiful, I am aware that you are not here to witness it. This makes me sad for you, but grateful that I am still standing in your place. I will do my best to honor your life by living mine with as much gratitude and love as I can manifest. It's not always easy, as I miss you so and I feel you should be here enjoying this bounty of life. You were taken from us far too soon-A brilliant shining star.
I miss you and I love you Johnny. I always will. Until we meet again please stay by my side in spirit and memory- to guide and comfort- your little sister Sally

I met on through our interest in family history. He was the one who inspired me to get started in writting down our family history. I'm so sorry he is gone. I will pray for him and his family.

my love...A new day dawns once again.
I stare at where you used to lay your head.
I close my eyes and see your face so clearly,
That smile that could bring me to my knees.
Those eyes that saw into my very soul.
My heart aches for the touch of your hands on my skin,
the taste of your kiss on my lips.
I've come to understand the meaning of loneliness.
I wipe away a tear.
It's almost more than I can bear.
I ask for the strength to get me through another day without you.
... Even after a year, I still feel this way... my love for you forever, Monique

I only met him once, and very briefly. I wish I got to know him better.
