In Loving Memory
Karen Kulvin
Sept. 11, 1944 - Aug. 13, 2021
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Karen. After fighting a courageous 20 year battle against breast cancer, she died peacefully at home, surrounded in love by her family. All who knew Karen were touched by her deep listening, words of wisdom, beauty and courage. She is remembered for her wonderful hugs and how she made those around her feel like they were the most important people in the world. Karen cherished her relationship with her family. Her deep love for and closeness with them was recognized by all. Karen's memory will hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Karen was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Growing up she loved spending summers with her family in the Catskills. Her love of dancing began when she used to Lindy with her father. Karen was overjoyed when her daughter Jackie was born. She was a devoted mother who was always by her daughter's side and was her very best friend. Karen met her soulmate, Dick Kulvin, in NJ and they shared 40 wonderful years together. They enjoyed a fulfilled life of dancing, sailing, travelling, family, friends and more. They continued their adventure upon moving to Santa Cruz in 1995. Karen had found her true career calling when she began working as a Management Consultant for Fortune 50 clients. Her heartfelt work of motivating others inspired her to develop and lead workshops that empowered women, as well as to lead numerous seminars for Landmark Education. Her journey of self transformation inspired her to devote her life to supporting people in achieving their full potential.
Karen leaves behind her beloved husband Dick Kulvin, cherished daughter Jackie Rubin Hart (Jim), treasured grandchildren Noah Hart, Samantha Farren (Robert), Elle and Nadene Hart, 4 great grandchildren, dear siblings Reggie Hausler (Allan), Michael Drillinger (Rosalind), Brian Drillinger (Eric), her niece and nephews, and close friends. Memorial date TBD. Donations can be made in Karen's name to Hospice of Santa Cruz County and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
