Lee T. Fitzgerald passed away on September 9, 2021 at his home in Capitola. He died peacefully sitting in his favorite chair. He was the second of six children of John and Margaret Fitzgerald - born at home in Orland, California on January 31, 1927.
Lee enlisted in the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 to support U.S. involvement in WWII and then transferred later on to the Army. Lee wed Rosalee "Rosie" Wagner in 1958. After the war, he completed his studies in accounting and worked as an accountant in the Oil industry for a few years before moving his family to Santa Cruz and settling into his final profession in the automotive industry here in Santa Cruz as a Business Manager/Controller for a
local Ford dealership until his retirement in 1999. Golf, was his greatest passion, playing every Saturday with his brother "Jack" and later on with his wife, sons, and grandsons. He regretted when the time came that he had to give it up.
Lee was married for 63 years to Rosie, who survives him, along with his four children and their spouses, Daniel and Jenina Fitzgerald of Newport News VA, Deborah "Debbie" (Fitzgerald) Egense and Mike Egense, Denise (Fitzgerald) and Dave Weybright, and David Fitzgerald all of whom stayed within the local Capitola area. In addition, there are six grandchildren, Sean Egense, Kristine (Egense) Savattone, Andrew Weybright, Katherine (Weybright) Kinsman, Lucy Fitzgerald, and Jayden Fitzgerald of VA; 2 great-grandchildren Mitch and Mia Evarts and numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Alex. His brothers and sisters, John (Jack), Robert, Delores O'Reilly, Helen Mogk, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021 at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean Street Extension, Santa Cruz, where Lee will receive full military honors. Please feel free to donate to the Alzheimer's Association
