Marie Locatelli Obituary

Marie Locatelli passed away peacefully at her home, on Friday, May 12, 2023, with her sons by her side; she was 92. Marie was born in Castelvetrano, Sicily (Italy) to Vito and Vincenza Orlando. She spent her early years in Casablanca with her family until she immigrated to Santa Cruz in 1948 with her older brother, Gaspare "Gus" when she was 17. Their parents joined them a couple of years later. When she arrived, she was employed by Levi Strauss where she met many of her life-long friends; later she worked part-time for the local canneries. After her marriage to Salvatore "Sal" Locatelli in 1951, she became a homemaker as she raised their three sons, while working in the family business. In the early years, Marie hosted many extended family events and celebrations. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, the Sons of Italy, and a life-long member of the Italian Catholic Federation for 50+ years. Marie was engaged in the community and loved social events and travel; especially Hawaii. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, music and dancing; especially when Italian music was being played. Always a consummate gardener, in her later years, Marie had a special affinity for orchids and surrounded herself with them in her landscaping at home. Marie is survived by her sons, Daniel Locatelli, Sal Locatelli (Dawn), daughter-in-law Sue Locatelli, former-daughter-in-law Debbie, sister-in-law Benita Orlando, brother-in-law John Locatelli (Karla), much-loved grandchildren Michelle Torres (Robert), Jennifer (Locatelli) Preciado, Nick Locatelli (Julia), Ashley Locatelli; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Anthony, Alexander & Adrian Torres, Aubrey, Bridgette and Courtney Preciado, and Casey Waymire; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Vito & Vincenza Orlando, aunts "Fifa" Maniscalco (Tony) & Antoinetta "Toto" Salvo, her brother Gaspare "Gus", husband "Sal" Locatelli, eldest son Richard Locatelli, and daughter-in-law Luann Locatelli; and husband Troy Mansker. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to her caregiver, "CiCi" Kaci, as she provided comfort, excellent care and compassion throughout her last months. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Pacific Gardens Chapel beginning at 6:00 pm. A Private Interment will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
