Mimi Bowles Obituary

Amelia Pease Bowles
Aug. 25, 1921-Oct. 9, 2011
Resident of Aptos
October 9, 2011 marked the passing of Amelia Pease Bowles, know to most as "Mimi".
Amelia was a beloved mother, cherished friend and deeply generous soul to many of those who were fortunate to know her. Born in Lille, France, on August 25, 1921, to Henri Martha Kukay, she came through the doors of Ellis Island at age 12 and, like so may in her generation of European newcomer, fell in love with her adopted country completely and wholeheartedly. Settling in Brooklyn, NY, with her parents and younger sister, Jeanine, Mimi had her work cut out for her but was a quick study. She had a voracious appetite for language, learned English fluently by her teens and was considered one of the brighter students in her graduation class in high school. In 1943 she married Doyce Pease and together the raised their three boys Robert, Richard and Ronald in Palo Alto, where she became a naturalized US citizen in 1956. The family moved in 1960 to Santa Cruz. Over the years Mimi became a well respected citizen and business person. For many years she owned a successful real estate brokerage, Mimi Pease Realty. In the early seventies she served on the Santa Cruz Real Estate Association Board serving as president for one term as well. In 1971 she held the position of president of the Women's Council of Realtors. In 1998 Mimi's beloved husband Doyce passed away, after 55 yrs. of marriage. As life often provides, the absence of a loved one and the need to fill that void did not go unrequited for long. Mimi met a whole new love when she met John Bowles and together they spent a decade of unqualified devotion to each other. After John died in 2006 Mimi spent her remaining years in comfort, passing away peacefully in the house that her husband Doyce three sons build in Aptos, as was her wish.
Amelia is survived by sons Robert Pease wife Elizabeth, from Inverness, FL, Richard Pease wife Brenda, living in Loveland CO and Ron Pease wife Dawn, living in Aztec, NM. She is survived by five grandchildren, Jamie Pease Wilson, Robbie Pease, Laura Pease Holder, Kurt Pease Jennifer Mauch. She had four great grandchildren. Mimi is also survived by her two step sons, Randy Bowles wife Cathy, Lake Oswego, OR Chris Bowles wife Eleanor of Manhattan Beach, CA.
Mimi will never leave the thoughts of those who loved cherished her. Among her favorite words: "..to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeded."
