I went to high school with Nathan. He was one of the nicest and smartest people there. We also attended the University of Oregon together and had some of the same classes. He was a great guy and learning of his passing is very sad. He made the world a better place. Rest in peace, my friend.

Nathan and I exchanged books. LBJ Bio, Faulkner Bio, all sorts of things. On his birthday once, no one was working late(5pm!) like us, so I said let's get you a birthday drink! We went to a bar and a couple were dancing. We sat and had a Corona, maybe a tequila. All of a sudden, behind us, a commotion ensued. The female bartender was engaged in fisticuffs with the lady who had been dancing! Luckily the bartender prevailed, the cops came, the dispute was the lady missed her money, thought it had been taken improperly as a tip, Forgot she'd played the juke box for the dance music. Nathan and I, unfazed, walked towards our cars and I said, " Happy Birthday, Nathan, You have been Punked, that whole scene was for you!!" For we who knew and loved him, you know his reaction, believed it for a second because he loved and trusted people, then realized it was my joking him, which he enjoyed. Glad to have known this fine human being. My condolences to all who knew Nathan.

Nathan made deep impressions on a lot of individuals who crossed paths with him - young and old alike. I had many discussions with him about indian authors and culture. He was a great conversationalist with older generation and an athlete who could just with as much ease, connect with children. Miss your smile, intrigue at nature and questions why book clubs mostly only have women members!

Lots of love and warm affection to Sabrina, Jack and family.
