Richard Cordano Obituary

Dave Cordano, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was 89 years old. Born in Oakland, Dave moved to San Francisco as a child where he later attended Lincoln High School before volunteering for the draft and serving in the military during the Korean War. After completing his military service, he pursued higher education and earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in engineering from San Jose State University.Dave had a successful career in both engineering and management, holding prominent positions for 39 years across several companies. His journey began at IBM in San Jose, where he demonstrated his skills and dedication. In 1965, he was transferred to Boulder, Colorado, which opened a new chapter in Dave's career. During his time in Colorado, he co-founded and contributed to the establishment of multiple companies, showcasing his leadership and entrepreneurial abilities. In 1985, Dave returned to California and took up a position at Seagate, which allowed him to settle in Scott's Valley. His significant contributions to the field of engineering and technology, including several key patents, continue to be acknowledged and valued. Throughout his life, Dave faced numerous health challenges, but his unwavering positivity allowed him to overcome them all. Dave retired in 2000 and his retirement was filled with an active lifestyle, as he dedicated his time to the Hidden Glen community association, travelling, skiing and organizing regular get-togethers with his lifelong friends from Lincoln High School. His love of the outdoors led him to fully embrace Scott's Valley and its surrounding areas, where he could indulge in his passions for golf, exercise and gardening. Dave's zest for life was also reflected in his involvement with S.I.R.S., where he remained an active member. Dave is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joanne, their son Mike and daughter-in-law Judy, and granddaughter Kelsey. Dave will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the California Central Coast Veteran's Cemetery at Fort Ord. A gathering to celebrate his life, his contagious laughter, and kind-hearted nature will be held later in the spring, where family and friends can bid farewell to Dave on his new journey. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
