Robert Dilworth
Sept 26, 1941 - Sept 20, 2017
Rhode Island
Robert Palmer Dilworth passed away peacefully shortly after learning he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He passed in Rhode Island where he was beginning his new residency on the East Coast. He will be dearly missed by his former and current wife, Judith Parks Dilworth and Adrianne Yvonne Dilworth. Robert was born in New Haven, Connecticut but always considered the west coast as home. He was raised alongside his brother, Greg Dilworth, in Southern California while his father continued his career at Cal Tech. His parents, Robert and Miriam Dilworth were so proud of Dad's achievements.
It didn't take him long to start a family. In November of 1962, he married Judith Parks Dilworth and had two children, John and Michael. Settled in the small beach town of San Juan Capistrano, they raised two boys while making massive achievements in technology. Chasing the internet boom in the early 80's, he moved his family from San Juan Capistrano to Santa Cruz where he could be closer to the Silicon Valley and chase his thirst for technology. Robert Dilworth was passionate, dedicated, and always thought "out of the box", it was truly mesmerizing to watch what he would create next. A teambuilder, he had the ability to culminate the "best of the best" and drive innovation to completion. This world traveler and entrepreneur was directly responsible for innovating the early adoption of laptop computing and wireless data transport. Always pushing the limits of what can be done, he left technological legacies with Companies like Morrow Designs, Zenith Data Systems and Metricom. Robert Dilworth served as CEO for many companies and was highly regarded representing even more companies as a board member.
He remarried in July of 2003 to Yvonne Borges Dilworth with her 2 daughters and now 3 grandchildren. They had a zest for life and often traveled the world together and created many unforgettable experiences. This was a special time for Dad because he truly could see the world and experience things outside the corporate landscape. These experiences created many stories and he cherished every moment of it.
With his passion for fun times and affection for warm climates, you often found "Big Bob" at his River home along the Colorado River. His legacy and good friends always drove him back to where he loved the most. Whether it be flying down the river in his jet boat, or enjoying a booze cruise in his pontoon, this escape and stress-free environment really allowed his true personality to shine. Big Bob is world renown for his stories about his experiences and accomplishments. He is also known for having the most joyful laugh and kind eyes. He is truly "unforgettable" and will be forever missed.
He leaves behind 5 grandchildren from the marriages of John & Heather Dilworth, JD & Alyssa Madden, and Christina and Mike Werner. They are Morgan and Lacy Dilworth, Tyler and Makenzie Madden, and Anthony Werner.
His "Celebration of Life" will be held at Chaminade on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1 Chaminade way, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Beginning at 3:00pm, we invite everyone Big Bob touched throughout his years.
