Sion Milosky Obituary
Milosky was named the North Shore Underground Surfer of the Year last month. Vans and Surfing Magazine developed the award to promote unheralded surf talent in the Hawaiian Islands, and it was based on all-around performance in contests and free surfing. Milosky used some of the prize of $25,000 in travel funds to fly to Santa Cruz to catch one of the last big swells of the season at Maverick's.

Sion made 2 trips to Maverick's this winter - one in November and one in March. During the November session, my son and I watched him quietly dominate and wondered who he was. Colin talked to him, we already knew who Sion was from his coverage at Pipe and North Shore Outer Reefs, but didn't make the connection until they met. Colin was wide-eyed as soon as he found out it was Sion and left the water with a glow because of how this well-know pro treated him. When Sion came back for that swell in March, Colin surfed with him. Sion greeted Colin by name and stoked him out with his aloha. To his close friends and family, know that the good karma Sion brought to Mav's lives on in the impression he left on my son. Rest in Peace Sion.

I just read the news today, Oh-Girl! I was truly saddened to hear of your loss. I did not know you, your husband or family but we had some things in common. I am just a old surfer who started in the 1950's. I also have a wife and 6 children not so young anymore. I pray Gods Grace will shower you and your family at this time with His Love, Peace and Truth that you are not alone during this loss. I just wonder if the big wave riders have done any research with re-breathers out there to give a little air in the time of need? I haven't read anyone doing it yet but if not I hope if it is possible that it would be considered, tried, proven, true and maybe prevent this type of situation from any future losses. I believe it's Truly a heart felt loss. May He show you and your children His Comfort through Many. Sincerely, Barry, Lorna and Kids.
PS : There's no shame to wear a re-breather and come home at the end of the day if they work.
