Stephen Gerald Bankhead, a longtime resident of Watsonville, died on February 21, 2022, after a short illness. He was 75.
Mr. Bankhead worked as a writer for many years at The Pajaronian, formerly known as the Register-Pajaronian, and the Santa Cruz Sentinel. He was involved in his community, serving as Secretary of Friends of The Watsonville Library and Head of Poetry at the Santa Cruz County Fair, to name a few. He was an Army Veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. He also belonged to the American Legion, Sons of Italy, and SOCCO.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Alice Bankhead, his daughters and son, and sisters. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel 222 E. Lake Avenue on Friday, March 18, 2022, from 10-11am, Chapel Blessing starts at 11am, with burial to follow at Valley Catholic Cemetery 2401 E. Lake Avenue at 1pm.

Our sincere sympathies go out to the Bankhead Family. Steve was always one of my very favorite "department chairmen" at the Santa Cruz County Fair. He will stay in my heart as a very kind person, who I treasure as a friend.
