Stuart Simon Obituary

Dr. Stuart Simon was born on September 9, 1944 in Middletown, New York, the oldest son of Rosaline and Norman Simon. He grew up on a mink farm several miles out of town.He graduated with high honors from Middletown High School where he participated in tennis and drama. Upon graduation he entered into the freshman class at William College in Williamstown, Massachusetts where he again excelled in studies and received a degree in Astronomy.Upon graduation he entered Tuffs Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts and after 4 years of study, internship and 2 years of residency, Stuart received a fellowship at University of California San Francisco. This is where he met his lifelong wife, Betty. Shortly after, he entered the Navy and was stationed at the US Navy base on Treasure Island in the San Francisco Bay. Following several years in the Navy, he joined the Peace Corps, and was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan where he took care of Americans working overseas.Stuart had experienced the California lifestyle and upon fulfilling service overseas, and spending another year in Boston, he obtained a position in Emergency Medicine at the Watsonville Hospital where he worked for 40 years until his retirement!During this time, he purchased his dream home on a hilltop in Aptos, CA where he loved his time overlooking an orchard in the San Bernadino Mountains. He gardened, planted fruit trees, added several additions and installed a swimming pool and he swam daily. It was here that he spent much of his free time with his wife Betty, his son and his daughter.During his medical career Stuart became the ship's doctor on many cruise voyages to different parts of the world. He always invited his family, as he loved to travel.Stuart was a caring person, not only caring for thousands of people in the Emergency Room, caring for his elderly mother for 20 years, but also caring for his family throughout his years. In later years, after retirement in 2015, Stuart suffered from diabetes. However, he never complained one bit of his health. His final days were spent sitting in his favorite chair at the head of the driveway overlooking his estate and he died very peacefully at home.He is survived by his wife Betty of 50 years, his son Craig Simon (Samantha), of Aptos, CA, daughter Lisa Simon of Vancouver, Canada, brother Bruce Simon of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and grandson Sean Simon and granddaughter Raven Simon, of Aptos. He will be missed by many. Please visit www.scmemorial.com if you would like to light a candle or leave a memory in Stuart's honor.

Stuart and I were friends at Tufts medical school and often spent time together at meals. After our second year, I lost touch with him because we were off on clinical rotations. I remember him as very smart and humorous. My condolences to his family. Family would like to share any thoughts about him with me. My email is [email protected]. I go by the nickname of Sandy

May Bruce's memory be for a blessing; love and support to all who mourn for him, may the good caring deeds of his entire life be an example for us all in our lives.
