Trevor Krieg Obituary

By Shanna McCord

The accidental death of 22-year-old Trevor Krieg, who fell from a roof of a houseboat on Lake Shasta and drowned, has left volleyball players across Santa Cruz County mourning.

Krieg was a well-liked volleyball coach at Mount Madonna School, Scotts Valley High School, Cabrillo College, and he served as head coach of Main Beach Volleyball Club.

"He was a really special person," said Jivanti Rutansky, head of Mount Madonna School, where Krieg coached girls varsity volleyball the past two seasons. "He knew how to bring out the best in everyone. He was magical that way. He will be sadly missed."

A memorial will be held 10 a.m. June 10 at the volleyball courts at Rio Del Mar State Beach, Aptos.

Debbie,

I did not know your son Trevor. I live in Aptos. I walked by your son's memorial on the beach today with my husband. What a beautiful memorial. I cried when I saw it. I too have a son the same age as Trevor. God bless you and your family during this difficult time.

Dear Debbie,
Even though we only met your children one time,(at the family reunion in Minnesota)we remember how wonderful they all were! We were so sorry to hear about Trevor, and wish we had your address so we could send something more personal (including many of your aunts and uncles on the Ellis side). Even though we can't,we still want you to know that Trevor's sisters and you, Debbie are in our thoughts and prayers. We hope that it helps a little to know, you have relatives all over the United States that are thinking and caring about all of you and your family!

Debbie,
You may not even remember me, but I remember you, Trevor and Brittany with great fondness when you used to come for your orthodontic appointments. I had the pleasure of knowing the 3 of you and you and I often spoke of the trials and tribulations of parenting. I was just crushed to see the news about Trevor in today's paper. He was an incredible young man who did great things in his 22 short years on earth. I'll be keeping you and Brittany in my thoughts and prayers as you are grieving your unthinkable loss.

Oh the lives you have touched in such a short period of time. Your impact on Kaylee and the 15's team of Main Beach will forever be an imprint on their hearts and their love of volleyball. They will fight the way you always wanted them to during their continued journey to Florida. Thank you for your generous, kind spirit and your unselfish love for this team...you are sorely missed.

Debbie,

The loss of your son comes as a shock to us at Farmers. I know what a shock you and your family have suffered. No person or experience will ever replace the happy days and love your beloved son Trevor gave you. I want you to know how terrible we feel that you have lost a lovely and talented son at such an early age. May your memories of Trevor be a source of comfort.
Sincerely,

As a Grandson there was no one I'drather spend a day with. You were able to finish college early and go on to coaching, something you were so good at, We loved having you at our home in Oregon and were looking forward to many more. That will not be possible anymore but you will alway be with me and loved so very much. I'm so proud of the man you became. Grandpa Fred.

Debbie I remember when Trevor came to bring your child to work day and he hung out with Jason. The Lord is taking care of him. All my love and prayers to you! May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

My dearest Trevor. You were & still are my very special gift. Trevor, may God comfort you & hold you. I feel that Trevor was a gift given to me to Love & guide but ultimately always belonged to God. There was never any expectation of him while growing up. The only thing that was ever wanted for Trevor was to be happy with whatever he choose in life. He loved coaching & teaching. Trevor very seldom asked for help. There were times when he was down & out & would call and just say "mom" & it was given. It was a great pleasure to give to my son. Young adults out there go forward with your lifes & enjoy your futures. We all have a time when God chooses us (whenever that may be) so take life one day @ a time & know when things are grey that they won't always be that way. May you all make the right decisions during hard times & good times. There was a knickname I had for Trevor & that was wild thing. I use tell him "wild thing. I think I love you." When Trevor was young Trevor had a speech impediment. I had to take him to speech therapy classes & use to teach him to read with the hooked on phonics before he started school but it was to help him pronouncing words. He loved the hour a day while teaching him & learned so quickly while Brittany would hide under the bed when it was her turn. I do want to say Thank you to all the people for all their prayers. The prayers are being felt. Please continue to pray for his sisters. To dear Joey, don't let this bring you down. Please remember the good times & know that he is being loved in Heaven.

I never had you as my coach, but I saw how you nurtured every single one of your players with a balance of tenderness and intensity that no other could achieve. I only heard great things about you. You were, and continue to be, loved. Thank you, Trevor, for touching so many lives. Volleyball players all over Santa Cruz county will play with more strength and effort each day, in your memory. We will never forget you.

We are all so blessed that Trevor chose to become the SVHS Falcon boys volleyball coach. One of Trevor's first activities for the team was an all day long team bonding event that started with go-karting and then a men's Stanford Volleyball night game. It did not take long for the team and the parents to realize how energetic and dedicated Trevor was to the team and the sport. Only Trevor would have optional practices around 7:00 a.m., then again at 3:30 p.m. on school days and practice on Saturdays. He took a very young team, pushed, challenged and encouraged them to improve their volleyball skills. Trevor's enthusiasm and passion for the Falcon Team was hard to miss at each and every game regardless of what the score was. He was constantly on his feet and pacing the sideline. There were numerous times when he would be jumping up and down with arms and hands waving in all directions. He would demonstrate to the players the correct move when they made a mistake and excitedly celebrated their accomplishments when they nailed their shots and blocks. The last time we saw Trevor was at the end-of-season tournament against SLV. Normally that would have concluded the season, but not with Trevor as the head coach. He held another practice just for fun with the boys and then scheduled a second end of season celebration with the boys at the Rio Del Mar beach. Then again just last week, he invited them to a practice with the Volleyball Club that he was coaching. It was apparent that neither the Falcon boys nor Trevor were ready to part ways. We are certain that Trevor's work with his boys and girls teams was just the beginning. We have no doubt that he will continue to watch over them from above. Trevor, thank you for everything. You are and will be sorely missed for a long time. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Some students make an impression for all the right reasons. I taught him in high school English. Trevor was earnest, intelligent and a truly gentle soul. He was driven to succeed, yet did not step over others to do it. He laughed with people, not at them. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends. Though he was with us only a short while, he certainly embraced living with gusto. We will miss him here at Saugus High School.

Trevor you taught me to give 110% and taught me the meaning of true hard work. You taught me to not just be fine with being okay. I will never forget my senior year season with you as my head coach. You helped me and believed in me. You told me that I could always call you whenever I need you, well I really wish I call you still. I promise that I will always push myself to be the best I can be in everything and to never give up because I know you would want me to do that. I miss and love you so much Trevor! I wish I could talk to you just one last time <3

Just saw Coach on Tuesday when he came into the SVHS office to turn in his keys to the gym for the summer. I thanked him for coaching and congradulated him, told him how happy we were to have him at the Falcons nest ...and gave him his check ... He said back to me - No thank you, I am looking forward to next year .. Just then a couple of his players came into the office knowing he was on campus - Brett and Noah they were so excited to see him ... Laughing, joking, funny knicknames and even chest bumps :) it was so sweet to see their interaction and admiration for their coach! Especially Trevor's smile and happiness with them at my desk. I will remember that morning always.
