I never met Bill face to face, I purchased his webpastie service back in September 2005. I called Bill several times a month, soon our tech talk evolved into a friendship. I really enjoyed his gentle nature and I admired his innovative ideas. Bill was a MAJOR influence in my career, because it was his service that enabled me to podcast and he mentored me on a number of career altering pursuits. I am deeply saddened by his passing and offer his family and friends my condolences.

My cousin Bill,
How sorry I am to see you go. After many years we reconnected for a week in Costa Rica. We bonded and had a great time cruising around on your scooter and visiting your favorite watering holes. It was a pleasure to find you had grown into a man with a sharp wit and a gentle soul. I will always treasure the time spent with you. Happy trails.

Possom - As I sit here reviewing you adventures in Mexico, I cannot help but reflect on how many lives you have touched and the memories they have of you. Personally, I am currently wearing the SCH3 shirt you gave me when I was visiting Santa Cruz in 2004 during my 2-week R&R trip from Iraq. Back then, I was Just Bret and was far from home. SCH3 and many fellow Hashers will definitley miss you on trail, though I really think you are just scouting trail with G and are just waiting for the rest of us to meet you at the On-In. I know I will see you again, I just have to get through all of this shiggy, so make sure you save room for at least one more drink when I get there! Brave, Brave Sir Robin

I was deeply saddened when I heard Bill passed away. Bill was one of my favorite R&D engineers at Borland with whom I had the privilege to work with. He had wit, charm, humor, and a down to earth friendliness that is hard to come by these days.

My sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. Such a loss is always tough to deal with. May you all find peace, ease of being and happiness beyond this tragic loss, I am sure Bill would have wanted that for you.

I am still in shock at learning of Bill. I've known Bill for 14 years and I will miss him dearly. What a great funny guy. One of many funny stories involving Bill, was when I was at his house in Monterey and he asked if I wanted to do a shot of tequila. I said "sure" so he grabs a pair of scissors and walks outside, to a
tree growing in his yard. On this tree were about 20 tiny airline bottles of booze tied with ribbons to the branches. He finds me a tequila and cuts the ribbon. That was Bill being Bill. What a great friend.

I was shocked and saddened by the news I received today of Bill's passing. Bill was bigger than Life. As many others have also agreed, he was the funniest, most unique person I ever met and could never forget. I feel blessed to have known him from Borland. He always had a smile and I loved his stories from his lifes experiences. I'm so glad he had so many great adventures and lived life to it's fullest. How about the time he showed up on the bus to the Borland party in S.F. after the computer conference up there, wearing an Elvis wig and dark sunglasses? You had to look twice to see if it was Bill. He was always making us laugh. And he was a kind, giving soul too. I'll miss you for sure, Bill, and will never forget you.

I am so very sorry to lose such a genuine friend as Bill. My sincerest condolences go out to all those who loved him. Bless his soul.
I interviewed Bill when he came to Borland and learned he was the DippyBird guy! So we had to hire him. He was one-of-a-kind and never failed to bring a smile to my face. He was interested in all kinds of things and that made him a great trivia night teammate - but he didn't let us take ourselves too seriously. After trivia, he often suggested a nightcap at the red room and I could never bring myself say no to him. To me he was a modern day pirate, with his parrot, shaved head, southern drawl, blue dog ink and endless supply of stories and ideas. He was a joy to be with. I miss those times, and I will miss Bill.
