ANTHONY SPAGNOLA Obituary

ANTHONY JOHN SPAGNOLA Anthony John Spagnola passed Friday, February 3rd, 2017 in Los Alamos, NM. John was born a proud British subject in Saint Catherines, Ontario to Cosimo and Rosina Spagnola, on July 2nd 1927, being the youngest of eight children. After his service in the Korean War, John began a career in local broadcasting. In the 1960's and 70's John was a popular Santa Fe radio personality on the stations KVSF, KTRC and KAFE, and was known locally as "The Voice of Santa Fe". A talented musician and craftsman, John retired from radio and made his mark as a prolific local furniture artisan in the Santa Fe Style. As a musician, he composed an advertising jingle for Bert's Burger Bowl and the official 1964 Fiesta anthem, Santa Fe Girls. John was active in The Sons of Italy organization, was an enthusiast of poetry and English history and was an expert mushroom hunter, who could be found atop the Sangre de Cristos every fall, harvesting all porcini in sight. He brought joy to everyone he knew through his charm and humor and he never met a dog that didn't love him. John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ida; his children: John and wife Susie, Tamara, Chris; grandchildren: Robert and wife Felicia, David, William, Nicole, Sarah, Lucca; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Caroline; and a large extended family. Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, February 7th at The Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz, 100 Church Street, Santa Cruz, NM 87567
