Carlos Sena Obituary

CARLOS SENA Lucky in life and lucky in death, Carlos Sena passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, January 11 at his home in Santa Fe. With the aide of the Medical Missionary sisters, he was born to Claude Sena and Juanita Sanchez on May 27, 1957, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His family first lived in the north of town on Camino Del Norte, but moved to Coronado Road when Carlos was 5 years old. He began his academic career as a kindergarten drop out, lasting only one day at the Garcia Street Club. He attended elementary school at St. Francis, junior high at Harrington, and graduated from the new Santa Fe High School in 1975. He is still remembered by all his teachers, both for the naughty and the nice. Carlos then attended New Mexico State in Las Cruces, rooming with several of his Santa Fe friends such as Paul Lineberry, Mark Grossi, and Peter Serna. He graduated magna cum difficultium in 1980 with a major in communications. His first job after graduation was working for the New Mexico Department of Probation and Paroles, where he was able to help many friends and strangers alike. Carlos then received a job offer as the Program Director for KENW, the FM station for Eastern New Mexico University so he moved to Portales, New Mexico. He left in June of 1989, for new challenges in Durango, Colorado. In Durango, Carlos first worked for several years as the general manager for KDUR, the radio station for Fort Lewis College. In 1990, he began his 9 year stint as general manager of KSUT, the public radio station broadcasting throughout the four corners region. During Carlos' tenure at KSUT, he developed it into a regional station, serving 14 different communities around the Durango-Farmington area. In June of 1998, he started a second station, the Southern Ute Tribal Radio, specifically to serve the local community that had originally founded the KSUT radio station. In 1990, he unselfishly gave up his career to return to Santa Fe to take care of his family and the family business. However, he continued to be involved in non-profit radio, serving on the KUNM Radio Board after being elected by its listeners. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Juanita Sena,; and his sister and best friend, Amalia Sena. Carlos is survived by his sister, Monica Sena; and brother, Jose Sena, both of Whittier California; as well as his adopted brothers and sisters, Nick Klonis, Mark Grossi, and Kathleen Shelly, all of Santa Fe, and Paul Lineberry of Moorpark, California. His uncle, Joe Sanchez resides in Santa Fe, and his aunt, Tina Roybal, lives in Rio Rancho. His godson, Carlos Sandoval lives in Santa Fe. He left many cousins in Albuquerque, the Valley, and throughout the country, as well hundreds of friends and thousands of women. Carlos' greatest talent was the ability, via a quick wit and some wild storytelling, to make people laugh, one of the greatest gift of all. He was also well known for his random acts of kindness, long before giving was in vogue. Carlos was a mountain of joy and had a heart so big that it, often to the dismay of his close friends and family, sometimes cut off the circulation to his brain. The challenge now, for all those he left behind, is to find someone as funny and as entertaining and as generous to fill his moccasins. For more details, please talk to any of his friends or check out the KSUT blog at ksutradio.wordpress.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Four Corners Public Radio and/or the Southern Ute Tribal Radio at P.O. Box 737, Ignacio, CO 81137, 970.563.0255. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis Cathedral, followed by the internment at Rosario Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service 1399 Luisa Street Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505) 984-8600

Your influence still affects my decisions. I can hear you telling me your blunt, but ultimately wise and loving opinions. I miss trying to convince you that I am right - the arguments were part of the fun. Nobody did it better! Love you and miss you everyday.

I knew Carlos way back. I'll never forget this. A friend of mine and I were walking down the street in the neighborhood. Peter and Carlos drove up a cross street in the "Panty-act" - that's what Carlos called their ride. Roxanne was beautiful and always laughing and really got their attention. I think both these guys had a crush on her. They leaned out the windows and cat-called or whatever guys do. Of course Roxane and I just kept laughing and walking ahead. We heard a boom, bam, boom and I turned and looked over my shoulder and those guys had been so distracted, they didn't make the corner turn. The car had jumped the curb and was high-centered on some bush or tree stump and the right wheel was just spinning in the air. We kept on walking ahead, laughing hysterically, engulfed in the hilarity of it.

My dear friend Carlos... I cant believe you are gone. A truly special person with a heart of gold and a sense of humor to match it. Carlos hired me years ago (1979 ?) at the Santa Fe Opera where he was the parking supervisor. I spent 22 years at the Santa Fe Opera thereafter. By far one of the nicest, generous, and loving individuals that I have ever known. Mrs. Sena was an absolute delight and I have great memories with this family that I shall forever cherish. I enjoyed talking with your Mother at the opera so much and her efforts with the Santa Fe Opera Guild and other activities were so appreciate by so many. I grew up at the SFO and Carlos was a great part of that "right of passage". Evangelos and chats with Nico will never be the same without you my beloved friend. God Bless the Sena family. Rest in Peace Carlos! Love you Bro !

But, I remember you well through junior high, high school & college; and have thought of you many times over the course of 30 years. I waited too long to contact you to say "hello, again". For this I am sorry. Godspeed, my long lost friend.

Carlos,
I will always love you and miss you. From the very first day we met we became very good friends. You were always there for me no matter what situation. We shared secretes that are many. I know the gates of heaven were opened and the Lord was there to greet you the moment you got there. A man like you that had a big kind heart and was always helping people got a first class ticket straight to heaven. I will always remember sitting at Nick’s bar playing with your curly hair, running my fingers through them. Then we would sing together and at one other especial the Beatle songs. I would even at times get you to dance with me. I am going to miss you so much but will always remember the GOOD TIMES. LOVE YOU!!!

I am sorry to hear about the passing of Carlos. Yep, he was a naughty little boy. I was in 4th or 5th grade with him at St. Francis. As it says here, Carlos could make you laugh & loved doing it. I remember one old cranky nun (sorry to offend anyone) asking me why I was laughing & I told her Carlos was making me laugh. She replied that no one can make you laugh. Not true, Carlos could bring you to hysterics usually when you were in church or sitting in a quiet classroom. I haven’t seen him since those early years, but it seems like yesterday. Carlos, as you travel on to your next level, you are remembered fondly. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Carlos I LOVE YOU and our Hood of 47 years is now asleep without your loving presence, laughter & love. You were my Brother as we walked through the roads of life together holding on for each others faith, strength and guidance. Carlos, you are now playing music with Gary in Heaven as the blue birds are dancing in the sky over here . We have already witnessed your gift of being one of the Most Beautiful Angels that will share your love even more and forever with all of us. I know you are already dancing with all the * Angel Ladies * in Heaven with the softness of the clouds showing you the next Dance of Romance . Thank you for making my life more beautiful as you were my Brother with unconditional love!
