Eddie Dayan Obituary

EDDIE DAYAN 1943 - 2017 Eddie Dayan sadly died of heart failure on Sunday 9 July 2017. He was 74 years old. He was born in Cairo in 1943 and grew up in Egypt, France, England, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. He achieved a highly successful business career in both marketing and retailing in both South Africa and Great Britain. After retiring he and his wife, Elaine, move to Santa Fe where his lifelong passion for photography developed into a second career, exploring and honing digital photography as his primary medium. He developed a considerable body of work which has been collected by museums and exhibited in leading galleries in Santa Fe, London, and New York. Eddie will be sorely missed by his friends and family who witnessed his 34 year-long battle with Parkinson's disease. His courage, determination, and humor in the face of this debilitating condition were awe inspiring. Eddie leaves behind his devoted wife of 44 years, Elaine; his cousin, Samy Cohen, and wife Nonna Mayer of Paris; and many caring friends in the US, the UK, and South Africa. Rest in peace, Eddie. We love you. An open house in Eddie's honor is being planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers any donation in Eddie's memory that you may like to make should be made to Christus St. Vincent hospital. They have provided exceptional care for Eddie over recent years. From Beecham days, I remember Eddie as a straight player, who respected honest effort and supported enthusiasm. Although he was focused on the task in hand, he was at the same time a nice and considerate man with a ready, dry humour.

I was sorry to read about his long challenge with Parkinson’s
and his passing. I was also surprised to learn that he moved to Santa Fe....just up the road!

Just saw the sad news about Eddie by chance.
Eddie was my MD when I worked in Currys in the mid 80's. Yes, he was very bright, and he could also be very kind and thoughtful. I remember one time when we were having health problems with our very young kids, Eddie arranged for us to go to a nice hotel for a weekend family break. It revived my wife Moira and me. No other boss has taken that level of interest.
Our condolences and best wishes to Elaine.

Just heard the sad news. Someone as special as Eddie will never be forgotten by anyone who knew him. I am not alone in thinking of Eddie as the best boss I ever worked for, a truly inspirational leader.

So sad to hear of Eddie's passing. I owe him so much. He gave me 3 fantastic job opportunities. He was by far the best boss I ever had - and that is said with all due respect to some other excellent bosses I had the privilege to work for. One of Eddie's greatest attribute was his incisive and decisive mind. When you put a proposal to Eddie that he accepted, you always felt that success was guaranteed - such was our confidence in Eddie's quality of decision making. My condolences and very best wishes to Elaine.
