Hope Curtis Obituary
1933-2024
Hope Curtis passed from this life on January 22, 2024 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Hope was a photographer, opera lover, philanthropist, cat lover, bird watcher and an avid reader. She travelled the world with her late-partner, Donna Quasthoff. When at home in Santa Fe, she donated her photographic talents to various non-profit organizations. In 2006, she was honored by the Santa Fe Historic Foundation for her "extraordinary volunteer contribution to the Tudesqui House restoration." The Curtis and Quastaoff Fund supports women technicians to be trained annually at the Santa Fe Opera
After Hope graduated from the Chatham Hall School in Virginia, she moved to New York City where she worked for the New York City Public Library. In the late 1950's she and several friends moved to Santa Fe where they established a theatre company in the newly built Greer Garson Theatre on the campus of the College of Santa Fe.
Hope will be remembered for being an outstanding member of the Santa Fe community and for making Santa Fe a better place. May light perpetually shine upon her. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your local animal shelter.

It is with great sadness that Corinne and I read of the passing of Hope Curtis. We really can not talk of Hope and Donna Quasthoff separately for our association has always been with them together. Over a year ago Hope offered me Donna´s sculpturing tools. They are some of my most prized possessions and when I look at them they tell me of the passage of time and the mortality of us all. Especially in the few years before Donna´s death I remember as we met for dinner Corinne and Hope would always be in deep conversation regarding the latest happenings in the Opera world and Donna and I would talk of architecture and architects, sculptures and sculptors. Hope´s association with the Santa Fe opera best exemplifies the essence of all that is Hope. Rather than supporting the more glamorous apprentice singers, she for years chose to support the less glamorous but in her eyes just as important female technical apprentices. I do not believe I have ever met more straight forward and kind individuals than Hope and Donna.
