James Doty Obituary

JAMES RUDOLPH DOTY Beloved son, brother, grandson, fiancé and friend died Saturday, May 7th, in Santa Fe. James was born in Santa Fe on October 23, 1986, and lived here until he and his family moved to Germany, where they lived for seven years. He returned to Santa Fe to finish school and went on to attend SFCC. James' limitless aspirations included becoming an actor, a builder, a father and so much more. Everyone who knew James, from the day he was born until the day he died, was illuminated by his very special spirit. He had a smile that was immediately endearing, and an infectious laugh that touched us all. He possessed the perfect blend of empathy and compassion that enabled him to connect instantly with anyone who crossed his path. Because of these qualities, all who knew him, and knew of the many challenges he faced, can now find comfort in knowing that he has finally reached the peace he always sought. James' family and friends, who loved and supported him through all his trials and triumphs with unconditional love, are devastated by this loss. James was a loving, vibrant, charismatic member of our community, who flourished in this world through each and every day; and, while all who knew him now know that James is free of pain, doubt, worry and suffering, we realize that there is only sadness in the void his death has left behind. And if, as he and his father believed, we are all created from stardust, such an indomitable spirit will shine forever among the stars. James was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Fields of Dallas, Texas and Aunt, Diana Fields, of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his mother, Delyse Fields, of Santa Fe; Grandmother, Julia Fields; father, Greg Doty and wife Julie, of Moriarity; sisters; Klara Reitz and Lillie Reitz of Santa Fe; Daddy Rudolph Reitz of Santa Fe; Jennifer Cale, James's fiancé, of Santa Fe, and their kittens whom he loved: Sauce, Ella and Bebecita; and countless friends. Services will be private. A memorial celebration is planned for Friday, May 13, at 6:00 p.m. at the family home located at 7459A Old Santa Fe Trail the first left after La Barbaria Road. The family requests that memorials be made to Youthworks, a non-profit 501c3 located at 420 La Madera Street, Santa Fe, NM.

Dear Delyse

Deby told me yesterday that James was gone. I have no words. What I knew of him was a smile, a ready friendship, and how much he loved you. I will see you in August but I wanted to let you know that he was with me all day yesterday and I woke with him this morning. Today Deby and I will light a candle in his memory and we will keep him and you and your family in our daily prayers.
