MARLYS RUTH WHITE
MARLYS RUTH (JARRETT) WHITE
AUGUST 11, 1940 to JUNE 28, 2021
This obituary is from Marlys' many friends to say how much we appreciated her contributions to Santa Fe and how much we miss her friendship. She was larger than life!
Looking back at Marlys' life, she was born August 11, 1940 and raised in Del Norte, Colorado, a true Leo! She graduated from Colorado State University with a major in speech therapy; where she met her future husband, Dennis White. They both earned an MS from Penn State University, State College, PA. Following graduation, they moved to Denver, CO where Marlys became a speech therapist and eventually an Elementary School Principal.
Marlys was a very active in the community when they moved to Santa Fe to retire. She was a member of various organizations including being a president of the Santa Fe Women's Club, vividly hatted member of Red Hats, Unitarian Women's Fellowship, Aquatherapy Center, a great book club, a play reading group, Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), founder of a Charter School on Rodeo Road, and many others.
She traveled the world and often volunteered for environmental groups/activities, foremost being EarthWatch. Marlys was ebullient, energetic, outrageousm, and game for just about anything. She showed joy in dressing up for every holiday, and especially enjoyed knitting baby hats and sweaters for families in need. She was quick to smile and lots of fun to be around. Marlys kept her many friends, whether over many decades or new acquaintances.
Marlys is survived by a son and daughter, their spouses, two grandsons, two sisters, her partner of many years, Terre Wilson, and numerous friends from all over the globe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denny White.
