SARA L. SANCHEZ DECEMBER 4, 1927 - OCTOBER 27, 2016 Sara L. Sanchez was welcomed into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on October 27, 2016. She passed away peacefully surrounded by love with her entire family. Sara was born on December 4, 1927 to Emiliano and Juliana Lopez. She was preceded in death by her parents Emiliano and Juliana Lopez and her son Marty Sanchez and grandson, David Downey. She is also preceded in death by her sister Lucia Branch and brothers Jose Lopez, Ezequiel Lopez, Julian Lopez and Gilbert Lopez. She is survived by her husband Lee, whom she was married to for 61 years; her son Lee Jr., daughters Julie Downey (Dennis), and Maria Sanchez-Gagne (John); eight grandchildren: Veronica Griego (Jeremiah), Marty Sanchez, Erin, Randy, Robert, Sarah, Anthony and Keith Downey; six great grandchildren: Angelica and Jacob Downey, Brian Griego, Alexis Quezada, Alex and Jasmine Galindo and numerous nephews and nieces. Sara was born in San Miguel County and attended Loretto Academy. She was an original Harvey Girl and worked at La Fonda Hotel for many years. She also worked as a Dining Room Manager at Bishop's Lodge Resort. Sara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, always thinking of others first. Sara expressed her faith and love for God in all that she did. She was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration, Our Lady of Light Rosary group, and the Blue Army, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for almost twenty years. She also established a rosary group to pray the rosary faithfully every week at the Carmelite Monastery. Sara occasionally enjoyed playing nine holes of golf with her many friends. Visitation will be at Cristo Rey Catholic Church at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 1, 2016. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Burial mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church on Wednesday November 2, 2016 and burial will take place at the National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday November 3, 2016. Pallbearers are: Marty Sanchez, Randy Downey, Anthony Downey, Keith Downey, Brian Downey, Jacob Downey and Jeremiah Shelley.
