TERESA H. BREMER
May 11, 1932 to November 2, 2025
Teresa H. Bremer, born May 11, 1932, in San Angelo, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in
Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the age of 93. A woman of deep compassion, quiet strength, and remarkable dedication to family and community, Teresa leaves behind a legacy that spans generations and the many places she called home.
At the age of four, Teresa moved with her parents to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she grew up and attended Albuquerque Public Schools graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1949. She attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri where she met the love of her life, Henry ("Hank") M. Bremer. They married on August 2, 1953, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by shared purpose, curiosity, and service to others.
Teresa and Hank spent the early years of their marriage in Illinois and Ohio while continuing their education. Their son, Jon Michael Bremer, was born in Middletown, Ohio, on August 9, 1955. Later that year, they returned to Albuquerque, where Teresa continued her studies in Education at the University of New Mexico. Their daughter, Catherine Anne Bremer, was born there on October 19, 1958.
In 1963, the family moved to San Anselmo, California, where Hank attended San Francisco Theological Seminary and Teresa taught junior high school in Petaluma and Novato. These moves marked the beginning of many chapters in Teresa's evolving career as an educator and counselor. In 1966, the family settled in Los Gatos, California, where Hank served as an associate pastor and Teresa taught in the public schools.
The family moved in1969 to Moscow, Idaho, where Hank was Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church. Teresa pursued further academic work at the University of Idaho. Teresa continued teaching and furthered her own education before another move to Northridge, California, in 1972 where she deepened her professional calling. While Hank served as Assistant Pastor at St. James Presbyterian Church in Tarzana, Teresa attended California State University at Northridge, earning a Master's degree in Psychology specializing in family counseling. She then completed her Ph.D. at the University of Southern California in the Sociology of Gerontology, focusing on family and senior counseling. Throughout these years, she trained extensively and worked with individuals and families, offering guidance, stability, and empathy to those she served.
In the late 1970s, after Hank began working for Southern California Presbyterian Homes as the Pastoral Liaison and Director, they moved to Mar Vista in West Los Angeles. After Hank's retirement in 1996, Teresa and Hank relocated to
Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Teresa continued practicing family counseling, offering support to many in the community until her own retirement in January 2020. In March 2024, she moved to Sierra Vista Living Community, where she spent her final years surrounded by care and warmth.
She enjoyed traveling to Mexico especially Oaxaca, supporting progressive causes, coffee in the morning and reading mysteries. She particularly relished caring for and raising dogs including Callie, Tag, Robiere, Basie, Orion, Lupe and Pearl.
Teresa is survived by her son, Jon Michael Bremer (with wife Anne Baldwin), and her daughter, Catherine Anne Bremer, her sister Donna and her husband Roger as well as nieces and nephews. Her life was anchored in devotion to her family, a profound commitment to helping others, and a lifelong pursuit of learning.
A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2026, when family and friends will gather to honor the extraordinary life she lived. Teresa will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, her subtle sense of humor, her unwavering compassion, and the deep and lasting love she shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
If you wish, consider donating in her memory to your local humane society, Guide Dogs for the Blind or your local peace and justice organization.
