TOM "TOMMY" GONZALES
Tom "Tommy" Gonzales born November 18, 1947, to Gabriel and Virginia Gonzales, a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, NM, graduated from Santa Fe High School in (1966). After high school he proudly served in US Army during the Vietnam War era. He served his time in Germany.
Tommy was beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on October 27, 2025, at the age of 77. He is preceded in death by his father, Gabriel Gonzales, brother Michael Gonzales and Brother-in-Law Leroy Sisneros. Tommy was the eldest son, (Mother) Virginia followed by: Michael Gonzales, (Grace), Doris Boylan, (Eddie), Vivian Sisneros, Judy Olsen (Mike), and Frank Gonzales (Peggy), Sister- in-Law Susie Madrid, and Virginia Lopez. Special nieces, Frances Garcia and Bernadette Mayor, along with countless nieces and nephews.
Tommy led a life dedicated to hard work and service. He worked for UPS and the Teamsters Union. For many years, he also worked at the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper, where he was known for his tireless work ethic and commitment to his work.
Tommy was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Celtics, as well as an enthusiast of boxing and wrestling. He took great joy in watching these teams compete and would often gather his sons and grandsons around the kitchen table to discuss the players' statistics and strategies as if they were the coaches themselves.
Tommy found great joy in listening to music and dancing, spending time with family and friends. He also took immense pride in maintaining a beautifully manicured yard, spending countless hours tending to his plants and ensuring his property was a source of pride for the entire neighborhood. Additionally, Tommy enjoyed the occasional visit to the casino, where he would indulge in his favorite margarita and try his luck at the slot machines.
Outside of his professional life, Tommy was a devoted family man. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, Mercy Gonzales; children: John Gonzales, Charles Gonzales (Danielle), and Anthony Gonzales (Frances); grandchildren: Jeremy Gonzales (Kayla), Jeffery Gonzales, Ariana Martinez (Josiah) Anthony Gonzales (Jessica), and Lucas Gonzales (Hope), Mikayla, Elena (Chance), Rhian (Chris) and India; and great-grandchildren: Abby, Scarlett, Emilio & Chistopher creating lasting memories and traditions. His family will remember him as a loving, supportive, and hardworking patriarch who always put their needs first.
Honorary pallbearers: Jeremy Gonzales, Jeffery Gonzales, Anthony Gonzales Jr., Lucas Gonzales, Frank Gonzales, Andrew Montoya, Ben Montoya, Marvin Montoya, and Tommy Ortiz.
Tommy's legacy will live on through the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A rosary and funeral service will be held at Cristo Rey Catholic Parish on November 13, 2025, at 10:30AM followed by burial at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A reception to follow at Cristo Rey social hall, 1120 Canyon Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87501.
