DeWayne Owens Obituary
December 23, 1971 - January 19, 2025
Santa Maria - DeWayne Jay Owens JR. passed away at the age of 53 on January 19th, 2025 with his family by his side.
DeWayne was born on December 23rd, 1971, in Santa Maria California and stayed in his hometown his whole life. Since he was 18, he wore many hats in his landscaping career from mowing lawns to irrigation technician work, sales representative, and account management. After 35 years of work he has created so many lasting connections with his clients, coworkers & friends. He was well known for his dry humor, outgoing personality & ability to build relationships with anyone he met.
Ask anyone who knew DeWayne, when he wasn't working, he was always BBQing on weekdays or weekends, it didn't matter. As a true Santa Maria local his favorite meal to cook was Tri-Tip on his Santa Maria style BBQ with Santa Maria Style Seasoning. He enjoyed nothing more than BBQing a delicious meal for his family & watching the Dallas Cowboys play. He took great pride in his yard & garden. Often working on it every weekend to show off to his family.
DeWayne leaves behind his fiancé Sonja Knight, children DeWayne Jay Owens III & Ashley Owens, sister Trena Owens Lopez & her husband Joel Lopez, niece Taylor Lopez, nephews Landon Ducheneaux, Joel Lopez Jr, and Logan Lopez. & numerous friends whose lives he touched.
DeWayne is deeply missed beyond all measure by his family & friends. Nothing can compare to the heartbreak of losing DeWayne, but we find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace reunited with his parents.
A Celebration of Life for DeWayne will take place on February 8th from 1-4pm at Waller Park site 7.

I first met Dewayne when we both worked for Lucky´s in 1989. We quickly became friends. He was a genuine person and a true friend. I will miss seeing him at Albertsons where I work now.
Rest in peace Dewayne. Have the BBQ pit going and save a place for me at the table when we see each other again.
