Frederick Quigley Obituary

Frederick William Quigley

December 20, 1934 - March 13, 2026

Frederick William Quigley, lovingly known as Fred, passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on December 20, 1934, in Camden, New Jersey, Fred lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, adventure, and a deep love for family, friends, and community.

Fred was the son of Thomas Morgan Quigley and Lillian May Read, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Quigley. He is survived by his sister, Joan Wagner.

Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 14 years. Enlisting on January 7, 1954, he rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant before being honorably discharged on January 5, 1968. His time in the military reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment.

Following his military service, Fred built a successful career with Martin Marietta Corporation, where he worked as a computer programmer in computer systems for 27 years. He retired in 1993, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and innovation during a transformative era in technology.

On March 8, 1965, Fred married the love of his life, Connie Bernedette Centeno. Together, they shared 61 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and enduring partnership. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie; his sons, Gary Quigley and Fred Quigley, Jr.; and his stepchildren, Rueben Olivas (Lupe) of Guam and Cynthia Vogelsanger (late husband John Vogelsanger) of San Jose, California. Fred is also survived and fondly remembered by numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Fred was a man of many passions and pursuits. An avid golfer, he not only loved the game but also gave back to the golfing community by organizing the Quigley Cup tournament at the Santa Maria Country Club for many years. An adventurer at heart, Fred found joy in backpacking and climbing mountains, including notable peaks such as Mount Whitney and Mount Shasta. His adventurous spirit carried into other areas of his life as well-he completed a marathon and became an accomplished amateur winemaker, earning awards for his wines at the Santa Maria Fair.

Those who knew Fred will remember his distinctive eyebrows, his warm and genuine smile, and the way he made others feel welcome and valued. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Fred's life was one of service, curiosity, adventure, and connection. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 6:00pm at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, 1003 E. Stowell Road, Santa Maria, CA. 93454. A Catholic Memorial Mass will be held in Fred's honor on Wednesday, April 8, at 10:00 AM, St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 1190 E. Clark Ave., Santa Maria, CA 93455. Sorry to hear of Fred's passing. My condolences to Connie and all the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief.

I met Fred in August 1977 when I started working for Martin Marietta as a computer operator. In 1980, Fred became my mentor when I was promoted to the software engineering group under his leadership. His patients and guidance during my early years in programming was the foundation I needed to be a successful software engineer at Lockheed Martin both at Vandenberg AFB and Denver Space Systems for 39 years.

I will miss my friend! He made a positive impact on me and my family.

RIP FRED

Aw, so sad and sorry to hear of Fred´s passing. I will always cherish the years of friendship with him and Connie. I sure missed running into them at the club back in the day. All the golf tournaments and all the after parties at their home. He will be missed. My condolences to Connie and the family.

Sad loss for this community. Fred and his wife Connie, have been stalwarts of the community and always so loving and helpful to anyone in need. I will miss the homemade Pinot wine he made each year and was always so generous in sharing with friends. I will miss seeing him at the SMCC where he and Connie enjoyed being with friends so much of the time.

My goodness, everything Fred was at the SMCC, He was our Team leader for so many years. Carried our Mn's Team to victory many years. Activ at the club, such a blessing to see him and Connie enjoy lunch. A fine man, we were so blessed to know Fred Quigley.
