Joseph Eugene Doud II
January 6, 1945 - November 27, 2023
Joseph Eugene Doud II (Joe) returned to his heavenly home before God on November 27, 2023, at the young age of 78 to join his wife Rosemary Porter Doud of 50 years. Joseph was born in Oxnard California on January 6, 1945, to Gene and Mary Doud as the fourth child of five wonderful children. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones.
Joseph truly enjoyed his childhood and was proud to be a part of a well-respected ranching family Doud (Leahy and McGrath) from Ventura County. Joseph is a descendent of Dominick McGrath, one of the first settlers of the Santa Clara Valley in Ventura County. The McGrath family of Oxnard have been prominent ranchers and landowners since 1876. With a strong family history and foundation in agriculture and ranching it was only fitting that Joseph would pursue a lifelong career in the agricultural industry.
Joseph attended Pierce College in 1963 and shortly after moved to Santa Maria, CA where he met the love of his life Rosemary Porter (Doud) in 1967. Rosemary too came from a strong ranching family in Santa Maria, CA. The two together shared their very rich histories of ranching and after a short 6-month courtship married in a beautiful Catholic church, Saint Mary of the Assumption in Santa Maria, CA on September 23, 1967. Together they built a beautiful family having two wonderful children Joseph Eugene Doud III and Derrick Porter Doud.
Joseph's life was built around faith, family, and ranching/farming. He was a hard worker with an infectious smile and larger than life voice that everyone knew and loved. In 1980 he met his business partner Jack Gresser and together they formed and collaborated with growers and started vegetables for local families in Santa Maria, CA. Central West Produce was then established and the two of them sold produce throughout the United States. After 15 years of a successful business Joseph and Jack decide to split the company. They were very proud and thankful for the many years they did business together, but knew it was time for the next generation to step in and learn the business. Joseph founded Pacific Coast Produce in 1996 and both children Joseph Eugene Doud III and Derrick Porter Doud moved back to Santa Maria, CA to join their father's company.
Joseph was very proud of his sons and enjoyed daily watching them learn and develop the business; this gave him the most joy in his later years. The relationships Joseph made throughout his life with family, friends, growers, and employees meant the world to him. Joseph lived life to the fullest and was very generous with his time giving and participating in numerous charities, 4-H, FFA clubs and always donating to the community he lived in.
Joseph met a loving companion, Georgana Domingos and they shared many wonderful memories together supporting each other's families, the grandkids and watching the children succeed in life. Georgana became a loving part of the family.
Joseph is survived by his loving companion Georgana Domingos; Sons Joseph Eugene Doud (Lisa Doud), Joseph and Kendall Doud); Derrick Porter Doud (Carolyn Doud); (Shea, Devan, and Chase Doud); Sisters Tisha and Jerry Ferrari; Dolores Borchard; Patty and Nick Weber.
