1938 - 2024
Joyce F. Pratt of Santa Maria passed quietly on September 30, 2024, in the presence of her friends and family. Joyce was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on February 4, 1938 to Mathias Edward (Ed) Salm and Irene Abendroth Salm. She married Thomas E. Pratt on November 10, 1956, and began her marriage as the wife of an Air Force Instructor.
She raised three daughters in places all around the US and Holland. When they retired, they moved from Newbury Park, CA to Orcutt, CA. Joyce retired from Semtech Corporation where she was Administrative Assistant to the engineering department. She remained active in the Catholic Church and was also an avid craft person who loved to paint wood projects that Tom made for her.
Joyce is survived by her three daughters: Jody (Peter) Schmidt of Eureka, SD, Lisa (Robert) Bergan of Santa Maria, CA, Susan (Kyle) Richards of Simi Valley, CA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jessica (Schmidt) Poore, Jamie (Schmidt) Banda, Jason Schmidt, Nicole (Bergan) Danis, Chase Bergan, Mason Richards and Mackenzie Richards. She had 6 great grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters: Carol (Salm) Seiler and Donna (Salm) Lappley both living in Wisconsin.
Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, her parents, her sister Barbara (Salm) Buss, her sister Helen (Salm) Schroeder and her brother Edward Salm.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wounded Warriors, or the Santa Barbara County North chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
There will be a Rosary held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 5:30 pm at the Chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary. The Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Santa Maria Cemetery.

I am so sorry for your loss, but very glad you had her for such a long time. She was quite a woman. I enjoyed our conversations and spending time with her at Merrill Gardens. She was fun, kind, thoughtful, intelligent and a friend. She always teased me about the time I attempted to swat a flying insect at our dinner table and, without thinking, hit the table so hard it scared the entire dining room. I, and many others here, miss her very much. It was a joy having her in my life for the time we had.
