Larry Norbert Azcarate, 75 years young of Santa Maria, California, passed away suddenly at home, September 18, 2022, after battling his 2020 cancer diagnosis. Born to John A. and Dorothy A. Azcarate in Santa Maria on February 9, 1947.

Larry spent many of his earlier years working for the City of Santa Maria as a mechanic during the day and working at various liquor stores throughout Santa Maria/Nipomo at night. In his retired years, he still did odds & ends mechanic work as well as being a handyman at the Chapel Street Apartments where his mother lived in her final years. He volunteered at The 'A' Street Caf where he loved telling stories to anyone who would listen. He always had a joke up his sleeve and loved making people laugh. They were sometimes inappropriate at inopportune times, but jokes, nevertheless.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pool, hanging out with his buds, going to car shows, fixing up old cars & maintaining new ones, spending time at the Elks or the Eagles and enjoying his favorite meals at the many restaurants he frequented. All these things usually happened over a cold one. Prior to his diagnosis, he had taken up cycling, riding miles and miles with his good friend, Randall Bisho. The strength he gained from this newfound leisure time activity likely contributed to his ability to endure despite his diagnosis throughout the last two years.

Larry is survived by his unwavering wife of 37 years, Teresa A. Azcarate, who he married on September 17, 1985, his daughter, Tara Weatherby (Eric), who was his part-time caregiver, support to his wife, as well as his advocate for treatment & care, his sister, Christie A. Hurd (Christopher), his nephew, Casey Hurd, his daughter, Kimberly L. Smith, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy A. Azcarate on October 2, 2012, his father John A. Azcarate on January 24, 1988, his brother, Gilbert E. Azcarate on September 1, 1988, and his niece, Brandy A. Azcarate on June 4, 1981.

Per Larry's wishes there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of life may be arranged for a later date.
