Mildred Cupp Obituary

Mildred Cupp

March 29, 1931 - July 31, 2025

Orcutt - Mildred "Imojean " Cupp (3/29/31 - 7/31/25), age 94, passed peacefully on July 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of deep love, quiet strength, and boundless generosity. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roscoe Gordon Cupp. Born in Oklahoma, Imojean lived in Chicago and Los Angeles before settling in Orcutt, where she spent most of her life and raised her loving family for the last 63 years.

Her career was marked by dedicated service - first at Alice Shaw School, then in the accounting department of the Orcutt Union School District - but it was her life beyond work that truly revealed her heart. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she cherished her family more than anything in the world. She was an original member of St. Andrew Methodist Church, where she found fellowship and purpose. She also served as president of the Retired California School Employees Association (CSEA) and a proud member of the Democratic Club, always advocating for others with grace and grit. She was a gardener of both plants and people - especially proud of her birds of paradise - and her cooking was so loved by her family that they made sure her recipes would live on in a cookbook.

She is survived by over 65 beloved family members and many cherished dogs who knew her home as a place of gentle hands and full hearts. Imojean was the center of her family, defined by her love, generosity, quiet wisdom, and independent spirit. We were all better for knowing her, and though we mourn her absence, we give thanks for her long, full, and well-lived life.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Methodist Church on Saturday, August 23rd at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the church. Flowers and donations in her honor may be made to St. Andrew Methodist Church during the service.

The family thanks all who have reached out with condolences and kind words.

Dear Bob, Sherry, and Jana,
We are all saddened to hear of Imojean's passing. The blessing of her long life and the love you all shared does nothing to lessen the pain of loss. We are thinking of you and your family during this time of grief. May Imojean's memory be a blessing to you all.

My introduction to her was by through my first phone banking, and I was terrified I was going to bring down our candidate just by my lack of experience. She laughed and smiled. Her encouragement meant the world. Imojean gave me the tips how to help our CSEA family. She and Jennie Batiste would have banter going back and forth, both enfolding me into their converstations. No better role model of being a human that cared for others have we had than both of these ladies. I thank you Imojean your kindness, your extension of warmth and caring. You are a loss for many. My prayers of gratitude, appreciation, and comfort to your family.

I remember Imojean as a kind and generous person - and had many dinners at her hand when hanging out afterschool with Julie. My sympathy goes to Julie and the rest of the family. My best to you all.

I feel immeasurably blessed for my friendship with Imo. Learned so much from her. Yes, I miss her but know we will rejoin in the future and reminisce about our visits to the home-bounds, making the Easter flower cross, and learning/enjoying her Asian salad and desserts.
You are now resting in peace, Imo, at our Savior's side. So happy for you.
Love always, Ines

I was so sorry to hear of Imo's passing. I met her while working at OUSD. She was quite the woman! I had tremendous respect for her and her wisdom and wit. We bowled together for several years and she beat all of us. My sincerest sympathy to your family.
