Paula Resler Obituary

Paula C. Resler

1938 - 2024

Paula C. Resler 's life story is quite rich and diverse. Born on March 9, 1938, in Honolulu, Hawaii, her educational journey began at Roosevelt High School, culminating in her majoring in history and theater at the University of Hawaii.

After moving to San Francisco at the age of 23, she transitioned to Los Angeles, where she built a career in social work and later held an administrative position at the Department of Social Services. Paula then ventured to Switzerland and Portugal, the homeland of her maternal ancestors, before she returned to the U.S. in 1977 to settle in Lompoc to be close to her mother.

Upon her return, she resumed her work in Social Services in Santa Barbara County, a path she followed until her retirement in 2000. In 2002, she found her life partner, Eva Didion, whom she eventually married in 2014. Their union was a profound and enduring one until Paula passed away on May 19, 2024.

Paula had a broad range of interests, being a highly intelligent individual who had a voracious appetite for reading until her sight failed. She was a dedicated theater enthusiast, holding long-term season tickets at the PCPA, and found joy in repeatedly watching classic films. Her passion for history, politics, art, food, and sports colored her life.

Beyond intellectual pursuits, Paula was a capable individual skilled in various practical tasks such as kitchen remodeling, plumbing, gardening, driving large trucks, and cooking. In her personal relationships, Paula shone as a mentor, a best friend, and, ultimately, the love of Eva's life, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.

I enjoyed my years with the GAIN program as Paula´s co-worker. We had many great conversations. As our cubicles made us neighbors, I learned so much from her to help clients. She invariably showed compassion and the ability to teach and inspire others. When I learned from Eva that she and Paula had found a deep and loving relationship, I was thrilled for them both. Paula had a positive and profound impact on the lives of so many people. I´m happy to say I was one of them. Rest in peace, my friend.
