Ruby Evans Obituary
Ruby Mae Evans, 92, passed away on Feb. 23, 2010. Ruby was born on June 22, 1917 in Lead Hill, AR.
She and her family moved to Santa Maria in 1940. Ruby and her husband, Charley, owned Evans Automotive for 17 years where she performed all of the office duties as well as the billing and bookkeeping.
Ruby was a member of the First Christian Church for over 65 years and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a life member of the Soroptimist Club of Santa Maria.
Ruby is survived by her son, Lucian C. (Captain USN Ret'd) (Rosalee) Evans of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter Virgie M. Hawkins of Santa Maria, CA, grandchildren Karen (Jerry) Lewis of Santa Maria, CA, Kathy (Craig) Unke of Santa Maria, CA, Brett Evans of Springfield, VA, Bob (Donna) Evans of Clifton, VA, Barbara (Neil) Waller of Frederiksburg, VA and Scott (Kimberly) Hawkins of Bakersfield, CA. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, nephew Harold (Julie) Orr of Santa Maria, CA and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charley Evans, in 1985 and her son-in-law Jerry Hawkins, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary with Reverend Clete Doyal of the First Christian Church and Dr. Charles N. Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Visitations will be Monday From 2:00 - 7:00 pm at the Mortuary.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brett Evans, Bob Evans, Scott Hawkins, Jerry Lewis, Craig Unke and nephew Harold Orr.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ruby's name to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 1550 S. College Dr., Santa Maria, CA 93454 or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Ruby Evans. Ruby was our neighbor for twenty years and we too loved her. Our children knew her as "Grandma Ruby". She was an excellent character model, gracefully combining strength and gentleness. We miss her and look forward to seeing in her in heaven some day.

Charley and Ruby were both wonderful people and great models for the many young people whose lives they touched. They were kind and giving people, loved my many. My deepest condolences to the family.
