John LaBar Obituary

John V. LaBar BALLSTON SPA – John V. LaBar, 59, formerly of Mechanicville, died Wednesday morning, November 9th, at his home, with his loving wife and daughter at his side. Born in Troy, NY, May 4, 1957, he was the son of the late Harvey and Rose Pucci LaBar and brother of the late Roseann Paulsen. A 1975 Mechanicville High School graduate, John also attended St. Paul’s Parochial School in his youth. He spent all of his adult life working for the Boston & Maine Railroad Company out of Mechanicville. He worked for 17 years as a conductor and spent his final 21 years as a locomotive engineer. He was a longtime active member of the United Transportation Union. In his spare time, John enjoyed boating on Lake George with his family. Their boat, “The Summer Wind,” was his pride and joy. John is survived by his cherished wife of 29 years, Krista Conerty LaBar, whom he married October 2, 1987, his loving daughter Hilary LaBar, Esq., of Philadelphia, PA, a brother David(Daniela) LaBar of Mechanicville, nieces Morgan, Molly, Maria LaBar, Emily and Sara Paulsen, as well as his Uncle Jack LaBar and Aunt Kay Murphy. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19th at NOON at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, NY 12118. Calling hours prior to the mass from 10AM – 12PM are also at the church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember John in a special way are asked to make memorial contributions in John’s memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168. To The LaBar Families,

After Tony meeting John less than a couple of years ago and learning of his diagnosis, a St. Jude Prayer for cancer has been said continually and that sentiment shared with him thru e-mail.
Far too many of our former classmates have left us prematurely, as did John, but may we all have comfort in knowing he was blessed in the years with his family left behind and has many waiting arms to envelope him at his next destination.
With Sincere Sympathy & Admiration,
Tony & Janice Colarusso

Very saddened to hear this news. John was a great man who absolutely loved his family and his job as a locomotive engineer! Always a wealth of knowlege on a wide array of subjects, John will always be missed by his fellow railroaders. RIP John.
