June I. Banning GREENFIELD CENTER - June I. Banning, 83, of Russell Road, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs following a long illness. Born on Sept. 8, 1931 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Estella (Caldwell) Sweet. June graduated from Johnstown High School in 1950. She married Wilbur J. Banning on July 11, 1959 in Johnstown and the couple has resided in Greenfield for many years. June was employed as a hairdresser at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs and worked as a cashier for the Grand Union Grocery Store in Saratoga Springs for many years until her retirement. She was a longtime, active member of the Spirit of Life United Methodist Church of South Corinth. She was devoted to God and had an active relationship with him. June loved thunderstorms, nature and was an avid gardener. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by three brothers, Buster, Charles and Roy Sweet; and two sisters, Shirley Moyer and Laura Ryan. Survivors besides her husband of 55 years include four children, Dirk Banning (Jody) of Harrisburg, Pa., David Banning (Jean) of Milford, Ct., Dale Banning of Greenfield Center, and Darlene (Banning) Wood (Bill) of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Brandon, Austin, Paige and Nicolas Banning; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank to thank the countless neighbors, friends, church community, extended family, hospice workers, and especially the caregivers at Mary’s Haven. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials take the form of donations to the South Corinth Spirit of Life United Methodist Church, 10 Chapman St., Porter Corners, NY 12859 or Mary’s Haven, 35 New St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
