Matthew Donald Hazleton SARATOGA SPRINGS - Matthew Donald Hazleton, 49, died peacefully at his home in Saratoga Springs, NY on Monday, September 12, 2016 after a 26-month battle with glioblastoma. Born in Ballston Spa, NY, he was the son of Karen and Samuel H. Hazleton IV of Diamond Point, NY and the late Ronaele (Armer) Hazleton. Matthew attended and was confirmed at the Niskayuna Reformed Church. He graduated from Niskayuna High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. He earned a B.S. in Biology, with a Computer Science concentration, from Binghamton University. He worked as a Technical Quality Assurance Manager for Matthew Bender/LexisNexis in Albany, NY for 15 years and was a President’s Club award recipient. He joined Efficiency Partners, LLC, a software and development company in Latham, NY, owned by his brother Samuel Hazleton V, where he has served as Technical Support Director for the past 8 years. He was an avid golfer and fisherman who enjoyed camping, travel, and spending time with his wife and his many friends and family. He especially enjoyed the comradery of his bowling league partners and a long-time poker group. Besides his parents, Matthew is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betsey” (Alexander) Hazleton; grandmother Rita Houppert of Watertown, NY; siblings Kirsti Davis (Kent) of Sarasota, FL, Samuel Hazleton V (Joani) of Clifton Park, NY, Laura Gresens of Niskayuna, NY and Matthew Connell (Jill) of Niskayuna, NY; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Sara and Samuel Hazleton III, Eleanor “Robin” and Donald Armer, and Gerald Houppert, Sr. A public memorial service will be held at the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church, 1331 Sacandaga Road, Amsterdam, NY on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 1:00 pm. Matthew’s wife and family would like to thank Community Hospice of Saratoga for their kind and compassionate attention and care during the past two months. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Matthew’s name to the following: The Community Hospice Foundation, The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center, the Lazarex Cancer Foundation, or Hope for Orphaned Pets Exist (H.O.P.E). I am so incredibly sorry to hear of the passing of Matt. I thought the world of him. We worked together at Matthew Bender for many years, and always had a great experience with him. He was so good at what he did, and patient with those less, or non technical. (He needed a lot of patience with me...)

The last time I saw him was with you Betsy in Saratoga, just before you two got married. He looked and seemed the happiest I had ever seen him. I am happy you two found each other, but sad that it was so short.
