Andrew Wesley Cox, Sr., 85, of Rock Falls, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. He served in the United States Army and retired as a Lt. Col. after 28 years of service.
Andrew was born, May 7, 1937, in Heber Springs, AR, the son of Brodie and Gertrude (West) Cox. He married Ruth E. Huske on October 22, 1955, in Chicago. He served on the board of directors for Du Page County BSA, Du Page County Little League Association, Illinois Private Industry Council, Business Employment Skills Team, Dixon Country Club, First Industrial Corporation, and Executive Committee D.I.D.A. He owned and operated First Industrial Corporation since 1988.
Andrew was a member of the following organizations; Lt. Governors Industrial Round Table, Illinois Industrial Council, Dixon Industrial Council; Great Lakes Industrial Council, Dixon Elks, Rock River Country Club, Dixon Gryo Club; AF & AM Villa Park, and Dixon Tollway committee.
Andrew enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Ruth of Rock Falls; three sons, Andrew Cox, Jr., Daniel (Sherri) Cox both of Sterling, James (Carrie) Cox of Spanish Fort, AL; one daughter, Sandra Richard of Dixon; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, officiating. Burial with full military services provided by the local veterans organizations will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Shriner's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
