ROCK FALLS - Anita S. Vasquez, age 76, passed away on November 4, 2024, in Sterling, IL, after being diagnosed with an aggressive illness. She was born on September 20, 1948, in Muncie, Indiana, to Valente and Florence H. Vasquez.
Anita dedicated much of her life to her faith, family, and career. She began working at an incredibly early age, holding positions with GE for 30 years and later with three different Walmart locations for 20 years. She was also the primary care provider for her mother for many years. A devoted member of St. Andrew Church, Anita actively participated in daily masses. As a sports enthusiast, Anita enjoyed playing softball, tennis, bowling, and golf. She was passionate about coaching young girls softball teams and mentoring children within her family.
Anita is survived by her sisters, Lucille (Randy) Miller and Linda Karn (Dale Burgess); her brothers, Mickey (Caraline) Vasquez and John (Donna) Vasquez; and her brother-in-law, W. Michael Spain. She is also survived by her adult nieces and nephews, Dina (Terry) Hay, Nikki Tintori (McLane Bellows), Randy Miller Jr., Matthew Millard (Jason Austin), Joshua (Brittany) Karn, Antony (Jamie) Vasquez, Amanda (Jeff) Abell, Angie (Earl) Hernandez, Crissy (Brian) Hart, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, Valente and Florence H. Vasquez, and her sister, Cecelia Spain.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrew Church, honoring Anita's lifelong devotion to her faith.
The family extends a special thank you to the CGH nurses and doctors who treated Anita. Your patience, generosity, and understanding towards our family was greatly appreciated in our time of need.
The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 4:45 PM, followed by the visitation from 5-7 PM at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday November 8, 2024, at 10 AM at St. Andrew Church. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery.
A luncheon will follow at the American Legion in Rock Falls.
