DIXON – Carlisle L. Magne, 73, of Dixon, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Dixon, IL.

He was born on January 13, 1948 in Oregon, IL to Charles Hill and Edna (Masters) Magne, who predeceased him. He married Diane Lynn Miller of Polo on October 18, 1986 at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL. Mr. Magne was a fabulous woodworker, loved building, and spending time with his family and grandchildren, and good friends. During his children's time in Lee County 4-H and Troop 93 Boy Scouts, he donated his time and skills.

Mr. Magne attended schools in Polo and Mt. Morris, graduating in 1966 from Polo High. He also attended classes at the University of Illinois at Champaign and Sauk Valley Community College.

Throughout his life he was a member of the Operating Engineers, the Carpenters and Millwrights Union and the IBEW. He worked for N & L Construction of Polo, Curt Weaver Harvester of Polo, and in 1969 he boomed out with the union to work the timber grounds in Gold Beach, Oregon, cutting fire roads through the timber ground. When work got slow, he again boomed out to Alaska and worked 2-3 years, building the pumping stations for the Alaskan Pipeline all the way to the tundra.

He came home in the early '70s and started Polo Lumber Company with Robert Groth Together, they built homes and apartments throughout the northern IL area. He eventually went to Byron and helped build the Byron Nuclear Station. In October 1981, he went to work for Commonwealth Edison at Byron Nuclear spending 5 years in Operation, and the next 20 years in Mechanical Maintenance, retiring in February 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Diane of Dixon; one daughter, Quinn Caitlin Magne of Dixon; one son, Cameron Charles (Ciara) Magne of Dixon; five grandchildren, Taylor Paige Frost, Parker Rae Magne, Sawyer Cameron Magne, Sailor Jade Magne, and Daegan Warren Magne; one brother, Dr. Michael L. (Patricia Spiva) Magne, DVM of Forestville, CA; and close family friends, Stanley (Diane) Bush of Byron and their family.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2021, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m.with the Rev. Randy Swanson, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Burial of cremated remains will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Dixon Rural Fire Department or National Epilepsy Foundation.
