Douglas Troxell Obituary

Douglas Troxell
Born: May 31, 1942 in Harmon, IL
Died: July 17, 2025 in Rock Falls, IL
Douglas Troxell, 83 of Rock Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Doug was born on May 31, 1942 in Harmon, Illinois, the son of Glenn and Ella (Owens) Troxell. He was a United States Army Veteran. Doug married Shirla Payne on December 23, 1963 in Sterling. He retired from Northwestern Steel and Wire after 35 years and also worked for Porter Brothers. Doug enjoyed planting his garden and tending to his flowers. He also enjoyed baking and doing puzzles. In earlier years, he loved to play softball and horseshoes. He loved his fur babies, but most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Loving his family was so important to him, so much so that he instilled it to his children and grandchildren which is the reason they all remain so close to this day.
Survivors include his wife, Shirla; his children, Kimmy Sue (Brett) Martin of Sterling, Jimmy Troxell of Rock Falls, and Angie "Bumpkin" (Chad) Johnson of Rock Falls; two sisters, Kay Brown of Harmon and Mary (Marvin) Finkle of Rock Falls; one brother, Tom (Gwen) Troxell of Walnut; seven grandchildren, Steven (Yvette Bailey) Troxell, Tristen (Karrissa) Archer, Bryce (Jess) Archer, Koltyn Stombaugh, Jaxsyn Johnson, Jakob (Mackenzie King) Johnson, and Jasan (Autumn) Johnson; ten great grandchildren, Rielyn, Brooklyne, Haighzel, Asia, Isaiah, Julian, Reign, Atlas, Emery, and Jayce; and special friend, Michelle Greggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Damien Martin; brothers, Stephen, Ronald, Donald, Robert, James, and Gary Troxell; and sisters, Patricia Richardson, Sharon Hudson, and Glenda Kaecker.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling, 505 1st Avenue. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Military honors will conclude the service.
