STERLING – Enrique "Rick" Cavazos Jr., 62, of Sterling, died on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Rock River Hospice House. Rick was born on August 4, 1959 in Sterling, the son of Enrique and Martha (Martinez) Cavazos Sr. He married Kim Campbell on April 4, 2003 in Rock Falls. Rick was a lieutenant at the Dixon Correctional Center and a correctional officer at the Whiteside County Jail for 30 years. After being diagnosed with brain tumors, over 10 years ago, he retired and started Fiesta Tables and Chairs. He loved helping others celebrate life.
He was a good guy, husband, girl-dad, papa, son, friend, primo, grill master, ultimate Chicago Bears fan and loved working out. Sterling Park District recently named him honorary "Top Gun." This distinction is for the most faithful gym-goers at Westwood.
Survivors include his wife, Kim, of Rock Falls; mother, Martha Cavazos of Sterling; three daughters, Marci (Greg) Glasson of Cypress, TX, Amanda (Peter) Bittorf of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Liz (Josh Shippert) White, one stepdaughter, Halley (Stephen) York, all of Dixon; one sister, Nancy (Mark) Vock of Sterling; three brothers, Joe (Kelly) Cavazos, Roy Cavazos, all of Sterling, and Daniel Cavazos of Chicago; ten grandchildren, Lauren, Emma Kate, Claire, Louis, Joe, Jack, Ava, Lucy, Max, and Mikah; plus his beloved dog "Copper."
Rick was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Monday, May 9, 2022 at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Please wear your favorite Chicago Bears attire in Rick's honor. Cremation rites will follow. Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling. A celebration of life will take place at 1:30pm at Champs in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established; with the proceeds benefiting Rock River Hospice House.

Condolences, thoughts, prayers, and Love go out to all of Ricks Family and friends on behalf of the entire Penaflor family and extended. I can only imagine how much he meant to all of you because I know how much he meant to all of us, Great man and quality human being! He was very good to me personally especially at a very rough time in my young life and I will never forget him for that and he really made a difference and always maintained a relationship and connected every time we saw each other and spoke, just a special person I cannot say enough about or thank enough.. I have to believe that although he is resting easy now in paradise all the good that he did, what he stood for, everything he shared, etc. all lives on here through all he influenced, helped, touched, and knew and we are all so thankful and lucky to have had Rick in our lives!!
