Evelyn Arlene (Volz) Kalas, 93, of Dixon, IL, passed into her Heavenly home on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Heritage Square in Dixon.
Born at home in rural Polo, IL, on October 12, 1932, the daughter of Henry C. and Katherine E. (Linker) Volz. Evelyn was a graduate of P.C.H.S. class of 1950. She married her husband of 48 years, Robert W. Kalas, on May 25, 1951, in Polo. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1999. Evelyn was an employee at Klines Department Store and a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, where she was active in choir, bells, Sunday School, United Methodist women, and on several committees. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and her flowers, until health no longer allowed any of these. Evelyn also liked to play cards and dominoes, but most importantly, she enjoyed time spent with her family.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Elaine Geiger of Dixon, Larry (Diane) Kalas of Yuma, AZ, Sharon (James) Dalton of Vero Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Douglas (Katie) Geiger, Michael Geiger, Amy (Ian) Chabot, Matthew Geiger, Kelly (Greg) Herring, Casey (Elizabeth) Kalas, Jeremy Kalas; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Ashley, Kalista, Wes, Eli, Zoe, Ellory; two great-great-granddaughters, Nova, Lilah; brother-in-law, Lyle Summers; and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Richard Geiger; grandson, Andrew McCartney; and brothers, Vernon and Donald Volz, as well as their spouses.
A Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, with Rev. Rosa Lee, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, with a Luncheon back at the church afterwards.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to her dedicated care-giver and daughter, Elaine, the home care-team, and Heritage Square in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon and/or Heritage Square in Dixon.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
