Grace 'Gracie' Hernandez of Sterling, IL passed away surrounded by her loved ones in San Antonio, TX on May 28, 2023, at the age of 68. She was born on December 8, 1954, in Fort Madison, IA.
Gracie grew up in Sterling, IL, and graduated from Sauk Valley Community College in Practical Nursing. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Gracie was actively involved in baking and crafting with her grandchildren and enjoying life with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Luz and Rose (Gonzalez) Estrada; sisters, Carmen Steltzer and Mary Estrada; two brothers, Alex Estrada and George Estrada.
Gracie is survived by her three daughters, Frances "Panchita" Hernandez, Rosa "Nina" (Ismael) Perez (Hernandez) both of San Antonio, TX, Amanda (Salvador) Huaracha (Hernandez) of Sterling, IL; step-son, Armando Hernandez II of Ciudad Del Maiz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico; three sisters, Angie Torres and Rachel Espinoza both of San Antonio, TX and Lupe (Steve) Harms of Sterling, IL; two brothers, Philip (Wanda) Estrada of Branson, MO and Peter (Selma) Estrada of Sterling, IL; 11 grandchildren, Bianca Hernandez, Diego (Angelica) Macias, Marco Perez, Karina Huaracha, Yessenia (Abimael) Gonzalez, Josue Perez, Miguel Huaracha, Luis "Angel" Hernandez, Yaqueline Hernandez, Amayia Hernandez, Joaquin Huaracha; and 4 great-grandchildren, Gianluca and Enzo Aguilar (Hernandez), Daniella and Ezikiel Macias; and her Beloved Blondie (her pet companion).
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Mary's Church, 600 Ave B. Sterling, IL 61081 on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11:00 am. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church. There will be a luncheon following Mass at 12717 Lawrence Road, Sterling, IL where we will continue to celebrate Gracie's life.
We invite you to wear purple as it was Gracie's favorite color.
