Joyce Elaine Lee
Joyce Elaine Lee, 86, of Dixon, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at home in Dixon, IL surrounded by her loving family.
She owned and operated a daycare for 20 years. Joyce also worked at Marshall's Beauty Supply for 20 years, and worked at Trein's Jewelry for five years. She served as a Lee County Election Judge for 40 years.
Joyce was born June 2, 1935, in Polo, IL, the daughter of Orville and Violet (Bloyer) French. She married John Lee on April 28, 1972, in Dixon, spending 38 wonderful years together until his death in 2010. She was a longtime member of Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church, Dixon.
Joyce was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed watching sports, especially high school and college basketball. Joyce was also a baseball fan, faithfully following the Chicago Cubs. She was a collector of anything related to giraffes. Joyce was a seamstress who made clothes for her four daughters and herself, as well as created works of embroidery and crochet.
Joyce was active at Dixon Bethel Church, having been a member for fifty-plus-years. Through the years she served as a Sunday School teacher, Primary School Superintendent, and Vacation Bible School Director. For numerous years, she was active in the Evening Missionary Society. She was a longtime member of the music ministry of the church. She was also in the Bethel Ladies Prayer Group and also a member of the Dixon Area Christian Women. In recent years, she volunteered for the Awana ministry of the church.
She is survived by her four daughters, Vicky (Dirk) Pogue of Fort Wayne, IN, Julie (Merle) Saunders, Patty (Dan) Hallquist, Natalie (Sean) Cavanaugh all of Dixon; ten grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Fassler, Katie (Dan) Royer, Jarred (Heather) Cavanaugh, Erin (Mike) Lodes, Mara (Ryan) Feeney, Devin (Sara) Pogue, Jaselyn (Ben) Nagy, Andrew (Ellen Peterson) Hallquist, Rachel (Kyle) McIntyre, Cassidy (Neil) DeCook; and twenty-three great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dirk Pogue, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, IL.
Memorials may be directed to Rock River Bible Camp (Dixon) or Dixon Bethel Church.
