LaVetta Mae Griffis, 91, of Rock Falls, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 12, 1933 in Hooppole, IL the daughter of Charles Herbert and Helen Celia (Kellner) Shere. LaVetta was a graduate of Stockton High School and Sauk Valley Community College. She worked for 32 years as a medical laboratory technician at Morrison Community Hospital and Freeport Memorial Hospital. LaVetta also worked as an in home care as a personal aide for those homebound. She was a volunteer and longtime active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Survivors include her five children: Gary (Karen) Griffis, Bob (Suzy) Griffis, Gail (Perry) Gleisner, Sherrie (Carl) Fuller and Scott (Melissa) Griffis; her siblings: Joe (Deb) Shere, Jerry (Betsy) Shere, Mike Shere, Lorraine Dorsey and Beverly Graf; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Randy; grandson Jason Griffis; siblings: Donald Shere, LaVonne Dewey, Darlene Witt, Merle Shere, Marlo Shere,
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 24, 2025 from 10 – 11 AM at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls, followed by the Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will conclude at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory.
Memorials may be given in her memory to St. Andrew Catholic Church.
