ROCK FALLS = Lori Patrice Dowd, age 66, died at home surrounded by friends and family she devotedly loved on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
She was born on March 17, 1958 in Sterling, the daughter of Laurence and Barbara (Jenkins) Sullivan. Lori married Tim Dowd in June of 1979. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1996. She was also preceded in death by P.A. Alumbaugh, a special friend that loved and cared for the Dowd children and grandchildren.
Lori was a meticulous homemaker that loved her knick-knacks. Born on St. Patrick's Day, she cherished her shamrocks, shillelaghs and of course the Notre Dame Fighting Irish!
She had a smile and personality that could light up even the darkest room. She was the ultimate protector of those she loved. And she loved like no other.
Her toughness was only outweighed by her sharp wit and incomparable sense of humor.
In the words of the great basketball coach, Jimmy Valvano: "Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind. It cannot touch my heart. And it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever!"
She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer (Joshua) Shaw of Rock Falls; two sons, Ryan (Becky) Sullivan of Sterling and Timothy (Tasha) Dowd of Rock Falls; three sisters, Christy Sullivan of Mckinley, TX, Wendy (Gerry) Meyer of Rock Falls and Lisa (Jeff) Fiorini of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Gary (Connie) Sullivan of Lakeland, FL; ten grandchildren, Nolan Sullivan, Addayln Sullivan, Carley Sullivan, Madason McFadden , Kennedy Shaw, Jaycee Shaw, Reiley Dowd, Brady Dowd, Ayden Dowd and Easton Dowd; one great grandson, Stetson McFadden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Barbara Sullivan; two granddaughters Shaelyn and Macee Sullivan.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2025 at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established.

I always had fond memories way back with Lori. When I moved to Michigan I lost touch with her. I will remember her smile and all the good times we had back in those fun days. I played pool on Monday nights for 6yrs with Lori. We had some wild nights! We played for John's. I loved her so much. She was a great person. Prayers and hugs to her family!! So sorry for your loss.
