Howard J. Vance

1936 - 2021

Vance, Howard J. , - age 84, of Margate City, NJ passed away at home with his family by his side on May 16, 2021. Born October 13, 1936 in Atlantic City, NJ to Howard L. and Elizabeth R. Vance. A graduate of Holy Spirit High School (1955), where he was a standout athlete in both football and baseball, 'Beebop', as he was called by his friends, garnered All-American honors then attended Syracuse University. Special thanks to Ed Nichterlein and Lou Greenberg for their sponsorship. Howard entered the Marine Corps, USMC to the USS Wasp in Boston, MA. After an honorable discharge, he met the love of his life, Phyllis Fantauzza, and began a 57 year honeymoon. He subsequently entered the New Jersey State Police and enjoyed a 27-year career, then retired with the rank of Sergeant. After his career with the State Police, he co-operated Howard's Marina in Brigantine, NJ with his father. He was also a manager at the Margate Log Cabin for several years before retirement. But his best job in life by far was his role as 'Poppie' to his 7 beloved grandchildren: Jack Lynch, Jared Lynch, Julianna Lynch, Savannah Cooper, Jillian Lynch, Ryan Vance and Avery Vance. He is predeceased by his parents, Howard L. Vance and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Vance and his sister, Gail (Vance) Wilkins. Survivors include: his loving wife, Phyllis (Fantauzza) Vance of Margate, son Howard L. Vance of Margate, daughters Karen (Vance) Cooper of Galloway, Bonnie (Vance) Lynch of Absecon, son Matthew Vance of Woolwich Township, his 7 grandchildren (named above), and his many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be offered at the Parish of Saint Monica (formerly Saint Michael's church), 10 North Mississippi Ave., Atlantic City, NJ on Monday, May 24 at 11:00am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to: NJ State Troopers NCO Association, 213 Crosswicks Rd., Bordentown, NJ 08505. Arrangements by the George H.
