Ann Mackey Obituary

Ann Booker Mackey - SAVANNAH - Ann Booker Mackey of Savannah died on November 9, 2016, at the age of 87. She was born in Savannah on November 25, 1928 to Elfrieda Schroeder Booker and Joseph Amos Booker, Sr. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, H. Lance Mackey, Jr., her sister, Elfrieda Booker Hendrix and her brother, Joseph A. Booker, Jr. The oldest of five children, she is survived by her brothers, Stephen W. Booker and Randal S. Booker, her son, H. Lance Mackey, III and her daughter, China Brooks Kimbrell, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. As a young woman, Ann graduated from Fassifern School for Girls, a noted preparatory school in Henderson, NC that strived to turn out perfect young ladies, accomplished with personality, charm, and graciousness who would follow the creed to, Look up, and laugh, and love, and lift. Ann embodied all of those qualities and more. She was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, where seven generations of her family have been baptized. Ann was very entertaining and told witty and wonderful stories from her varied careers. She worked in the ad department at Coca-Cola in Atlanta during the Mad Men era. Afterward, she worked for WSAV television in Savannah, and later she became The Secretary to the Chatham County Commissioners, a job she was most proud of. She was a patriotic member of the DAR, the UDC and many other civic organizations. She loved to play bridge and to dance, and she enjoyed her family and friends. She was a dominant force, filled with love and wanted the best for all and her family. She believed in looking good, being generous and presiding over her family with a great story. She will be missed. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel at 4605 US Hwy 80 East, Savannah. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension at 120 Bull Street. Following the service, the family will be receiving guests at 180 Green Island Road. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Good Night down here but Good Morning up there. Until we meet.
